There's a lot of work in just this one seat. It took about 24 hours of work total to get the seat bracket welded up, painted, etc. High end Recaro seats with electric motors aren't universal from the factory, no matter what they tell you. Only the passenger side is done, but it's a clean install, along with the passenger side airbag sensor and weatherproof electrical wiring.

The driver's side gets memory as well as 8-way. I thought it would be different and a little more sporty. I like the thigh support and the side bolsters on the cushion.

By the way, these seats are higher than my original cloth seats. About an inch higher. They're about the height of the stock seats with the height setting at its highest.

Can anyone with power electric seats tell me if that's the same deal with the limited XF? If not, I'm going to have to spend some time hacking down the seat even further.

The only other seats I have experience with are the stock cloth seats and no these seats do not give more leg room. Actually these seats are about 1" taller and 1" thicker at the seats than the cloth ones. I can start to see why some people complain about not being able to fit in the car. I'm pretty comfortable at 5'11", but if I were 6'2 or something I'd want to go straight into the cloth seats or even into a pair of fiberglass/carbon racing buckets.

 

OK. All done.

Went for a drive and it's different from the cloth seats but much more supportive. I have to explain that I got these seats because they were the closest I could find to the BMW E39 M5 seats that Alex Roy sat in for 30+ hours straight. The thigh support makes a big difference in resting on the dead pedal and pressing the accelerator. I figure if the recaros are good for a transcontinental record, they're good enough for my car

Very nice sonoronos! MN Crossfire meet is this wed night huh. Crazy how the month went by so quickly. Looking forward to seeing the seats and meeting more members.

 

They're supposed to be new, but they got whacked in shipping. You should have seen the box they came in.

Three seat motors came broken, some small dents in the leather. The shipper didn't insure the package, so I was SOL.

It took me about 20 hours to fix the seat motors. I was annoyed, but the seats still look good.

 

wait a minute ,you mean the cloth seats sit lower than the oem leather's?

I hate the power seat anyways so would jump at the chance to yank these out.

How much are they worth in good condition?

 

The cloth seats are incredibly low, and can be modified to be even lower by cutting a few springs (no joke).

As far as what they're worth - somewhere between what the seller wants and what the buyer's willing to pay, inclusively!

Grrrrrr 8, look fantastic, really sucks they got damaged in shipping.

 

My Crossfire came with a "dead pedal". It's not really a pedal, more of a "box of plastic" really.

I know that some earlier cars don't have dead pedals.

 

I think those seats look simply outstanding. I'd love to give them a quick sit. I don't work on my car. Could you give me guess on how long it should take a semi-skilled shop to install a set? What did you give for the set? Do they sit as good as they look?

 

Well, I can tell you what needs to be done.

Basically, a recaro "universal" power seat slider comes with sliders holes in the wrong place, the slider width a few inches too wide, and the seat belt mounting bracket too close to the seat cushions.

Also, the Crossfire seats have front slider mounting holes that are angled relative to horizontal. These are cut out of box section tubing and welded onto the factory sliders. The power height adjustment arms as well as the fore/aft adjustment splined tube must be cut and rewelded to support the correct slider width. Then high-strength alloy steel (I used 4130 plate) must be cut and boxed to form a new seat belt mounting bracket. Then all exposed steel is primer coated and painted black.

It took me about 20 hours to fix the 3 motors, 24 hours to cut, fabricate, weld, rewire, install the airbag sensor, etc for the first seat, 6 hours to do the other seat. Power wiring takes a few hours.

FYI. It would be much, much faster to install some fixed buckets on manual sliders. It would be even faster to install Crossfire specific seats. I only did this because I have the resources (thank God), but I do not run a job shop.
