Default Faith Renewed in my crossfire advice wanted on heads and cam work

Hey guys its been awhile since I posted. First off I love my crossfire it is by far the coolest car I have ever owned. A few weeks ago I got fustrated with the lack of aftermarket support and the ridculous cost of the parts avalible. I ended up picking up a 240sx and in the process of putting a small block in it. Last week I dropped my block off to my machist and we got into talking about the crossfire. He suggested that I port, polish and do a 3 angle valve job on the heads. I thought about it and thought why not. I felt a little foolish that I gave up quickly and ignored obvious power gainiers. I also inquired about doing a custokm grind on the cams. I am going to more research and if it works I will. Share the info with you guys. I have also made a custom CAI and let me tell you I can not believe the gains that it produced. I also put a 75 wet shot which I sitll havent used. I have seen people gain 50-60 hp on sbc from head and cams so why cant crossfires? So with my intake exhaust , head and cam work and I think I am going to go with the tvt cams spacers and injectors I think we can close to the 300 crank mark. I have the car off the road for the winter and have my 4th quarter bonus burnign a hole in my pocket so I think I am going to persue it. If any oone has done head or cam work aand has some advice I would appreciate it. Also I almost forgot I have a fabricator over here that says he can make me headers for $500 what do you guys think. I know the vrp one are over 2k which is crazy

It sounds to good to be true, but if he can do it, that would be great.
I think the Cams are going to be the biggest problem. But with TONs of cash nearly anything is possible.
I've wondered about having the heads ported and polished for a long time, I don't see why that wouldn't do a lot to up the H.P. Port matching to the exhaust too. But of course, any improvement is relative to how good or bad the original design was by the factory.
It would be very interesting to see you make all your mods in steps, and document your performance gains as you go along. I'd save the "wet shot" for last, because I think that's probably the least desirable thing to do by most on the forum. (I know I wouldn't want it).
Good Luck with your plans, I'm sure you will have lots of interested forum members watching your progress.

Head will work yield maybe 20 HP, and that's on the high side, cams another 20 HP or so. If you get an aggressive grind and some decent breathing long tubes, then you'll be set.

SBC motors also have 2 extra cylinders and a ton more displacement.

I know LET made some custom cams that were more aggressive then the Schrick, but they are pricey. Cam research and production isn't cheap.

If you do decide to pursue this further I'd love to see the results.

Good luck, and if you need assistance in finding production facilities PM me and I can reccommend some fairly affordable ones.

it's funny, even though we have CAI stock, I find my air intake temperatures run at 110 degrees F on the freeway at 75 mph.

Aparently the injested air is being heated fairly quickly, also an oil cooler is on my list of parts to install.

I was doing more research on cam regrinds. A few years ago I built a 240sx with a sr20det and we did a regrind and it worked out fairly well. I have heard horror stories of cams snapping but I contacted crane cams to see what the say. I;ll let you guys know
