Exclamation "Auto" lights

Is it possible to make lights (headlamps) to turn on automatically when you turn on your car and to turn them off when you turn your car off ?

Sure, buy a car from Canada. I have not touched the light switch unless I want the fog lights to turn on.

The U.S. cars do not have the same light configuration as the ones for other markets.

Not sure if it just the light switch. Try and search the forum it has come up before.

Isn't that just daytime running lights? It does not turn on the taillights and side lamps. (dealer can turn on/off this feature)

You could easily power the light switch through a relay that turns on and off with the ignition. (just leave the switch on or bypass it)

In Canada we use daytime running lights, the XF lights all come on including rear, plate and side markers. The high beam does not work though until you turn on the regular switch, you can still flash the highs as normal.
Cars coming into this country from the US have to be reprogrammed to do this. A lot of cars in Canada have just the lows on half power for daytime running lights but not the XF. If you want daytime running lights in the US, then a dealer should be able to do it if it is legal. This is what I understand.

i want the same auto lights like my jag, when its dark the lights come on and when you turn the car off they turn off. that way you don't ever have to mess with the switch and never have to worry about leaving them on when you leave your car

It is very simple. You have to go to your dealer. they will plug the check up box ( what ever thing they use to check your car set ups) and they can change the parameters of the lights ,etc.

In Finland you have to drive day and night with the headlights on. So in every car sold in finland the lights are on or off automaticly. I have done it afterwards in the dealers shop. They say it is really easy and it only takes like 5 minutes. The thing they can't do is to programm them to shut down after 20 seconds. That configration is not possible like in the mercedes or bmw's.

To do this you need a sensor to detect the light level, many cars have this these days, this includes cheap cars as well, I find that I can still manage to turn that switch though when I sense it is dark. The feature where the lights stay on for a while after turning off the ignition is real handy, having them turn on automatically not so much.

Source the sensor from a Pontiac Grand Prix. It's very straight forward. If my memory serves me correctly, it will have 4 wires coming out of it, constant +, switched +, ground and a wire that will read ground when its dark and open when it's light.

I agree I also would like the auto lights. Both my other cars have them and I have forgot to turn the lights off and drained the battery more than once since I've owned it. I'm sure in time someone will come up with a mod. for this.

TaReGt - It sounds like you have to go to your dealer to have this done. After reading through the posts its seems its understood how it works but not how to do it yourself. If I were you I'd contact my dealer and ask him if he knows how to do it.

I understood that i have to go to chrysler dealer, but some people mentioned that "someone did it" and "that is possible to connect it to light sensor" so i was waiting for people to explain.

I agree with patpur, see the dealer and get daytime running lights configured.

Daytime running lights on the Xfire have all the lights on except that the high beams and fogs will not work until you turn the switch.
The sequence with the light switch off is as follows:
Ignition on ... All lights on except for the low beams.
In gear/ drive with hand brake on ... All lights on except low beams.
In gear/drive with hand brake off ... All lights on, high beam/fogs not operable, except for the high beam flash function.

Getting out of the car with light switch still in the off position... shutting door turns on all lights again, low goes off and the fog lights come on for a few seconds and then all the lights go out.

Thats what seems to happen to my car with daytime running lights. My car is a six speed and the auto tranny sequence I assume is the same.
