If it helps, once they did the "fix" on mine, it was fine for 400 miles and then when it started happening again, it happened OFTEN. It wasn't hard for them to duplicate the problem once it was happening every 30 miles or so on the average. They replaced the transmission the next day.

And I agree with the Lemon Law talk...that seemed to get me extra help extra fast. Call me if you need me to testify in court...I'd love the excuse for a road trip!

This "Fix" seems to be Standard Operating Procedure. But, I have yet to hear of it fixing anyone's problem. Seems everyone still ends up getting the new Tranny.

I had a few issues with the "Can't Reproduce The Problem" issue from the dealer. Finally, after taking it back two or three times with the same "Can't Reproduce the Problem," I had the service guy go for a ride with me at lunch one day.

And, of course, it wouldn't pop. I had just given up, and was taking him back to the dealership when Bam! Twice, even. I still ended up playing games with them to get it replaced (several calls to Chrysler and the Dealership management).

PS: A couple people mentioned it too, but I have had mine pop twice since the tranny change. (knock on wood). Nothing since, and I am willing to chalk up two instances to me rolling through a stop and not completely dropping it home when shifting.

BEST OF LUCK! Hang in there.

I am having the same issue with my new Crossfire. Has anyone who has experienced this problem dealt with a dealership in the Washington, DC area? I have called a few dealerships that either do not have Crossfire techs or have never heard of this issue. Thanks!

Default Popping out of gear is a Benz Tranny Problem

Hi guys,

I'm looking to buy / trade in for a crossfire and I was surprised to see the same problem other Benz owners have reported with the six speed transmission. I own a 2002 C230 MB Coupe six speed and I and other owners have experienced this same problem. You can check out the MBWorld.org forum and you will find the same problem listed there. I'm pretty sure it's a problem with the Mercedes Benz Transmission. Maybe we should all get together and demand DaimlerChrysler fix this obvious problem.

Default VINs of 1st-Gear popout cars

I notice diane has #2801 and AZ Outlaw #2815 and they both had the same manny-tranny problem. Galen Dradcos, crossgirl, Mame etc, could you post your VINs? Trying to figure , if this is a production run problem, its extent, as I am eyeing an Xfire in the low 3,000s...

Well, no offense, but I'll keep my exact number private.

Suffice it to say, I am about half-way between #2815 and the 3,000 mark.

New or used???

If you're buying a new car I'd stay away from the lower numbers. One, that seems to be where most of the transmission problems were and two, why buy a car that was made back in June or July that has been sitting on the lot all this time? Unless of course the dealer is giving you a very good deal... at or below invoice plus rebates if available.

Also... before you sign, I would speak with the service manager and talk to him about the problem and see if he knows what you are talking about and what he will do for you if the car comes down with the problem. I would get it in writing if possible. Be advised it could be hard for them to duplicate the situation, my dealer never did but ended up changing the transmission... so far so good. Just my opinion.

Keep us posted and good luck

From what I've read on Mercedes forums this trans problem is from the 1, 2 synchro being assembled wrong. This problem shows up every once in awhile. Hopefully they fired the guy at the assembly plant. I work at a large dealer and haven't had any trans complaints.

Mine is at the shop as we speak. I believe the vin is in the 3,900's. They just told me to come pick up the car. His exact quote was I needed to engage it all the way. What a @$%$#^&% idiot. I was in the car business for over 18 years. I know how to engage a transmission. So I will take it to another local dealer to see if they have any better since. If they do I will buy my SRT-6 from them, then I'll promptly change the spoiler.

crossgirl,

Tell them to check TSB Mar 9 #21-002-04, First Gear Synchronizer and that it's a well documented problem on some early production cars. My dealer changed out my transmission with a little prodding without having duplicated the problem. Works great now... still a little clunky but very livable.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Seriously, I have an SRT6 and it had a transmission leak of sorts. Eventually it started doing the same thing. Speed up and thunk out of gear. It doesn't re-engage until you hit the breaks. Get this fixed immediately and don't take no for an answer. I'd be glad to help in anyway possible.
