Default Oils other than Mobil1?

I found this document and wondered what others were using if not Mobil 1.

I have been looking at some royal purple and amsoil as well, but have not heard anything.

Anyone in the know, feel free to share your experience....

I currently use Amsoil in my bike, and it's AWESOME stuff.
When I can't get Mobil1 I'll be using Amsoil.

I just use mobil 1, you will not gain anything other than a lighter wallet by using the higher dollar oil. If mercedes reccomends using mobil 1 then that is good enough for me.

I have used Amsoil since day one in my SRT6. I use it in all my machines and notice cooler running engines and better mileage. If you buy it in bulk as a "dealer" the price is reasonable.

I use Mobil 1 because it is recommended, but if not available, I wouldn't mind switching brands. My question is: Is everyone still using 0w40 grade? If not, then what are you running?

TIA, James

I know of people using Mobil 1 for diesel's for it's superior lubrication. Seems for "green" reasons the formulation for cars was changed a couple of years ago. If I could find it easily I would use it too. But in reality, I've only had 1 car that I wanted to last forever and when it was totaled by a 16 year old putting on makeup, changing the radio station and running a red light all at once, it was ready for a ring job at 150,000 miles with dyno oil. Most cars die from causes other than lesser quality oil.

Been using AMSOIL European 5W-40 since I got the car. Paid my neighbor $69.17 for 8 quarts and an oil filter. With forced induction cars, I don't use lower than a 5W oil especially down here in the heat.

I'm not. My eyes are really starting to suck. At least for reading!

Thanks again-you're starting to catch on!

I have been using Amsoil for years and it beats Mobile1 hands down. there is a lot of independent data that shows Amsoil does a better job of protecting your engine. Amsoil was the first fully synthetic motor oil marketed. Mobile1 European blead is not readly available while Amsoil is produced locally within 3 hours from where I live. It also helps that I am a dealer of the product and have it shipped directly to my home.

Mobil 1 in both the Crossfire and the Mercedes. Its almost impossible to find the 0-40 in the big jugs. This is basically a once a year deal for me so its no big deal moneywise. I figure I save at least half by doing it myself.

I am a dealer as well but have extensively discussed the requirements of our engine to their experts and they do not have an oil that fully fits the bill so I have not changed the SRT over. They claim they are working on it as Dodge has many vehicles now requiring the 0W-40. I was told I could "get away" with their 5W rather than 0W but with this being a very close tolerence design, I chose not to go that route.

Their oil is superior in my opinion but the weight thing concerns me.

I have used Amsoil in my previous cars, and will absolutely use it in my XF. I am interested to see the difference it makes versus the Mobil1 that's in there now. In case you haven't read this:
Royal Purple vs AMSOIL
I was debating on Royal Purple, but after reading many reviews on this Amsoil vs Royal Purple in different forums, I am sticking to what I feel confident with. Amsoil all the way

Just to add my 2 cents worth.
I find the Mobil1 0W40 at the local Walmart most of the time.
If I see it, I buy whatever they have, usually 6 or 8 qts., until I have enough for my next oil change.
About $6.50 per quart.

Another interesting note from the oil document is that a fleece filter has to be run in the 2005 and higher models. I have always used the German paper filters in my 2004.
