New Radio display info....
I was checking the availability of a new crossfire radio...just curious on the price. The parts computer showed a memo that stated...DO NOT attempt to exchange radios if the customer complaint is a washed out display in direct sunlight.A new radio WILL NOT correct this issue.A TSB should be out in 11/2003. I'm waiting to see this TSB it could have a fix included or more BS that its normal...I will have to wait and see.By the way the price on the radio is $1,300.........thats double what I thought it would be!!!!
Good Info - Be sure to keep us posted about the radio. Just proves that Chrysler does know and has known about the radio issue, but they are trying to ignore it for all of us. :x
I just bought a crossfire here in Canada and the radio display is black. It appears that Chrysler does know about the problem and has resolved it for future production. Don't *****, your car could be very collectable in the future with the early production radio. Just like the 63 corvette, with its early production problems and the different iteration of parts that GM went to as the car progressed through the model year.
When I get a chance I will take a pic of the radio, the last four in the VIN are 7121. It is a much later car than most, therefore I bet that DCX will do the right thing and make good on the radio. I just have one comment on the radio; did no one notice this before they bought the car? I new about it before I ordered mine and was fine with possibly having to change the head unit out. To my surprise when it came the radio display was black.
When I test drove my car I didn't even turn the radio on. I was more interested in driving it and listening to the engine sound. I already knew that the Infinity radio would be great. As awesome as the rest of the car is, I never thought the radio needed to be test driven!
Thanks, I did not drive the radio I drove the car, paid cash and was 90% staisfied with what I had observed - 10% on what I still can not OBSERVE!

I found the Infinity web site and sent them the following email. By the way.... They don't even list anything called a "Modulus" system. I can't wait to hear what they tell me. Here's my note to them....The email address is.... "Cartech@Harman.com"
Hello,
I am the owner of an awesome Chrysler Crossfire. It, as you probably know, comes with the Infinity Modulus Sound System. It has the absolute worse display I've ever seen. It's not bad at night, but in even subdued daylight it is extremely hard to read. I can't believe that.... First Infinity would put out such a lousy product and second that Chrysler would incorporate such a piece if junk in such an awesome car.
I would like to know if there's anything that Infinity can (or will) do to fix this problem? I believe that this problem lies more with Infinity than Chrysler. Chrysler just made a bad choice... It's Infinity that produces this piece of junk.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you,

I just took delivery yesterday. Noticed to washed out display on the way home. I test drove mine at night and therefore the display was perfect. I was planning on bringing it in for service until I see from the forum I am not alone. I probably now have 8,700 friends with the same problem.
The radio is made by Becker, which is used in many European brand vehicles such as Porsche and MB. The company name is Harman/Becker and they are part of the Harman Group which includes AKG, Harman/Kardon, Infinity, JBL, Lexicon, and Soundcraft. Harman/Becker Automotive Systems GmbH is owned by US-based Harman International Industries Inc. Harman/Becker has no retail operations in the US and probably no repair facilities also. The Becker web side is www.becker.de. The Crossfire radio seems to be a much stripped down model of the radios shown on the web site. These European retail models have multi color dials, AM/FM plus LW and SW and can play MP3 disks. MB probably just told Becker to build a stripped down "cheapie" for the Crossfire to save $$.
The MB beancounters at DC have a weird attitude towards how to spend money on development and marketing. They seemed to say that they are beyond question because this is how MB does things so this must be right. Several European car manufacters have bombed in the US because they didn't adapt to the US car buyer.

Lets face it though.... MB has done very well in the U.S. market for many. many years. The only things that MB hasn't had any success selling over here are their trucks... Like their Dump trucks, Garbage trucks, Long haul tractors, Busses, etc.
I'm sure the radio display is an annoyance to some, however, I don't think people should be saying all this stuff about how they are going to sue DCX and whatever... Remember, you bought the car. The radio was the same way when you bought it. It is not defective. That's the way it is. Also, like people said, the problem has been corrected in the new cars. It is not uncommon at all for changes to be made part way through the model year.

:P As I was reading the forum, my phone rang - and it was the Service Manager at our Chrysler Dealership. He called me to tell me he has the TSB for a new radio. (We had mentioned to him it was dim when we first got our Crossfire). I think that Desert Chrysler in Las Vegas went out of their way by calling me to let me know he has one on order for us. I was going to wait about a week before calling him to see if he would call me first. (He passed the "good customer service" test)
