Default Airbox: C320, C43, E500, S500... Which one is best?

Ok, so I did the search and everyone mentions these four... Some even said all the V8 boxes are the same... So I went and borrowed my friends old CLK430 box that he wants to sell...

And guess what.. It seems as though it doesn't fit... The front half would have to be cut a bit, but it seems that it sits high...too high to the point I felt my engine shaking through the hood.

TVT mentioned the C43 box being the best, but expensive... so the C320 was the better option...

Then a few others mentioned they think they have E500, or S500, or SL500 boxes...

So please allow me to ask once again..FP, TVT, Dan, etc..

Which box, or in which order of boxes is the best way to go that fits properly?

Thanks in advance...

I have an SL500 box, and it will fit fine so long as you don't use the plastic tip that has the MB emblem on it - this may not be very appealing to some. I bought mine off ebay for a pretty reasonable price, but the tip is another $100, which is not worth it to me considering it offers nothing other than a MB emblem. I spoke with Anthony(TVT) and he explained that the V8 boxes are a little bit longer and the nose piece does not fit very well in our bay - if you are interested in the complete box, you need to go with a 2003+ CLK box or a C320 box.

Stay with the "C" class, and they will fit fine.

You are going to get mixed responses here because you did not specify whether NA or SRT and nothing in your sig. May want to clarify, just trying to help...

That's correct.. Sorry for not posting it up... It's a 2004 Alabaster N/A 6-speed... It looks identical to Andrews old one, just a little lower... http://s151.photobucket.com/albums/s...der/crossfire/

Ok, so C class seems to be a safe bet... CLK (my friends 2001 anyways) didn't seem to work because it is too tall.

I know TVT mentioned C43 in one of his posts... Would the whole C43 box fit (front and back pieces), or would the C36 be the safer bet? And the other question would be is one of the aforementioned AMG boxes any better/more free-flowing than say the C320 you gentlemen recommend?

You can use the v8 box with a v6 nose piece or just trim the v8 nose piece so it will sit lower in the front. The trimming doesn't look so hot by hand unless you are really careful. Maybe a Dremel tool is in order. Sorry, no pics. I don't have the set up anymore.
