Aftermarket exhaust?
Car sounds great with the windows open, but it's a bit too subdued with them closed. Anyone seen any aftermarket exhaust systems for it that might add a few decibles?
No 4" exhaust tips; the stock ones suit me fine. I'm just looking for something with a bit less muffling.

Anyone look at the stock exhaust? It is TINY! An aftermarket exhaust manifold, removal of the cats and some nice piping would let that motor do what it's supposed to do
2nd, whats up with the intake pipes? Geez, they just slide right off. No clamps or anything. I forsee some aluminum intake pipes in the future

Sounds good, but in my state they frown on cat removal, and run all our cars through a visual inspection for the cats, vapor cannisters, air injection system, fuel cap/filler, etc., as well as a treadmill emission test every two years.
Not worth the trouble.

Even if you wanted to keep the cats, just go to a larger one, high flow and increase the exhaust size. I'd have mine done, but I leased the car to keep from doing such things.

No emissions tests in Virginia. But, we do have yearly safety inspections that include an inspection of the exhaust system. Have to keep the CAT.s I don't think they cause enough back pressure to worry about. I would like to see a better set of headers though.
I used a set of RandomTech cats on my Viper and was extremely impressed with the results. They have a high-flow metal substrate cat that probably weighed 10 lbs less each than the stock cats, and you could literally see right down through them. They added a bit of a deeper thump to my exhaust note, a few more horsepower, and ran way cooler. (The stock cats ran so hot the burned the paint). The randomtechs had all of the benefits of running a straight pipe and didn't set off the check engine light. They were about $600 for a pair of them and were installed by a regular muffler shop.
I got mine from Jon at www.partsrack.com - you may consider checking with him to see if he'd carry this sort of thing.

Yup, for the last 4 or 5 years we've been doing treadmill testing.
You pull in, get out, and go into a waiting area where you can watch. They do a number under the vehicle with a mirror to make sure everything is there. Of course, the cats could be gutted and they cannot tell with this visual inspection.
They then get in and see if the Check Engine light is on. If it is, the car fails right there, the test ends, and you leave 'unpassed.' You have a few weeks to make the car right, or lose the registration.
If the light's not on, they do a visual under the hood for any air injection system that should be present, they check the fuel cap, check a cannister if one should be there.
Only then do they pull onto the dyno to rev it up for the sniff.
Maryland has even more stringent testing planned for the future. No surprise, the Baltimore/Washington corridor traditionally ranks among the worst air quality areas in the country.

I would simply carefully remove the Y with a sawzall, then plumb a 2 in 2 out flowmaster with a flange (to allow reattachment of the stock muff) and my choice of tips., or reattach the stock ones.
The Manifolds are a double wall tuned header-like design with an air gap between the inner and outer wall, to retain heat and prevent heat transfer to the outside air. (Read: more power.)
It's a carefully tuned package, folks, with a lot of $$$ spent toward performance and durability. Many Hot Rod parts on newer stuff just makes it slower.

Here in the Florida Panhandle we don't have any problems. No inspections, polution or otherwise. The only way they get you is if the stop you for another ofense and then its only a visual inspection, and noise meter for loud noise. I know of no one who has gotten a ticket for loud noise. I have a Bassani cat back dual exhaust system on my PT Crisier on its a little loud, but I have never been stoped. Was pulled over once in the Crossfire, but the guy just wanted to see the car.

I'm sure you were glad that's all he wanted!!!
A couple of weeks ago my wife and I were in downtown Phoenix at the Chinese Culture Center for dinner. At first I thought there was a "wanted poster" out for us the way two city police officers were eyeballed us. They just gave us a big smile and a thumbs up as we walked by them on the other side of the street. It was the car, not me!!!
Flowmasters???? Did I accidently click a link to a Mustang board? Nothing personal the F word sets me off. People say they want to get rid of their restrictive O.E. exhaust and then they put on a flowbuster with its mouse maze delta flow directors. When some Trans Am teams finally tried some straight thru mufflers they were able to go down a 1/2" bushing diameter and still make more power. All these mufflers that claim to create low pressure zones to SUCK out exhaust gases. If this were true, wouldn't NASCAR want to use them. FYI, NASCAR did find benefits from X-pipes.
