Default When To Service

My car is a 2008. I bought it with 6200 miles on it and it was serviced with oil change at 4600 miles. I don't know when it should be serviced even now or where it would tell me. When should the first service have been done? I'm asking as the dash shows a (1) wrench and -65 by it. I also have a window sticker saying next oil change at 11000 miles and 5w 30 oil in the car. This oil change was done by an Infinity dealer that took the car in at 4600 miles for a trade on a Porch. Maybe Infinity doesn't know how to clear the wrench thingy. Maybe the wrench thing wasn't set at its original oil change at 4600 miles by Infinity. The car at present has 6400 miles on it. Maybe the first oil change was to be at around 7000 miles and the wrench is showing its close to that. Any opinions or suggestions. Thanks Ron

My suggestion is to change the oil and filter now even if it was already changed once.
Oil change intervals are usually about every 7000 miles according to the FSS readout on the odometer.
Use Mobil1 0W40 synthetic motor oil and one you have changed it reset the FSS by following the directions below.

1) Move the ignition switch to the “RUN” position

2) Within 4 seconds of moving the ignition switch into the
“RUN” position, press the reset button for the trip odometer
twice within one second The display for the FSS service
request is activated for 10 seconds

3) During the 10 seconds the FSS service request is displayed,
move the ignition switch to the “OFF” position
The FSS service request will continue to be displayed

4) Press the reset button for the trip odometer and
hold

5) Move the ignition switch to the “RUN” position

6) Continue to press and hold the reset button for the trip
odometer (about 10 seconds) until the audible signal
sounds and the new start distance appears in the display
The tool symbol should disappear at this time

I concur with the oil change but keep this in the back of your mind. I bought my 07 under almost identical miles and they told me since it was a Chrysler certified used car they had done a complete oil change. Well I drove it about 1000 or less miles and the one wrench came up. I took it to another dealer and they told me they could NOT get the system to reset manually so they went into the electrical system and reset it with the DRB. They changed the oil and filter too. I am sorry to say it has only about 2000 miles since that oil change and I had it changed just prior to winter storage. They made no mention of having to electrically reset the timer. Since I drive so little I change my oil yearly; just before I store it for the winter. I only drive it about 4000 miles or so a year. It will get less now that I bought the 05 roadster.

I do change all the other fluids -- coolant, transmission, brakes, etc. based on time rather then miles also. I have always done that with all my stored cars. Some may consider this over kill but it has worked for me.

It is my guess one of two things. They did not change the oil/filter or they didn't even know how to reset the timer or some combination of the above.

I only use 0-40 Mobil 1 in all my Mercedes. I also only use a fleece filter. I found the first Chrysler dealer did not use a fleece filter. Really made me suspect they used Mobil 1 0-40. That is the reason I had the oil changed after a 1000 miles. Just a side note my newer Mercedes only requires a oil change every 13,000 miles. Yes that is not a typo. I just can't let it go that long so I change that at 6500 miles and again at another 6500 when it requires a A or B service. By the way it all my Mercedes take the same filter and 0-40 Mobil 1. You can NOT rest the FSS on the newer Mercedes. I have to take it in for their service to get it reset.

Great info! I will have them do an oil change in the spring even though I only have 300 mile from buying date. Hope Chrysler has the right filter and the correct oil. Ron

Just as an FYI.

Mercedes has now stated that both 0W-40 and 5W-30 are acceptable weights of SYNTHETIC oil to put in any Mercedes engines. Since Mobil 1 has reduced the production of 0W-40, 5W-30 is also acceptable. However, just cause I'm OCD, I would still use Mobil 1 5W-30... Fleece filter is also a good idea. I went with a K&N and it worked for me.

In regards to oil changes, I go to a Jeep dealer in Flagstaff since there is NO Chrysler dealer anymore. Interesting they also do my midterm service on my other Mercedes. The Jeep dealer at one time stocked 0-40 Mobil 1 because one of their Jeep cars specified it. Probably one of the Daimiler-Chrysler models. Well they will special order it in for me if I give them notice and I bring my filter. Last time there was NOT a drop of Mobil 0-40 in Flagstaff and they ordered it from Phoenix. Also only Napa carries the filter for the cars (XFs and Merc) and they only carry one in stock. Air and cabin filters are also special order. Keep a supply of all consumables in my garage. So if the other three Xfires in town or the four other Mercedes get there first you have to order one in. By the way, the same is true for the wipers on the Mercedes. They only stock one set in town. It is a town of 60,000 but hardly anybody has Mercedes parts in stock. We have one German Independent and the Jeep dealer has the only Xfire mechanic. Went there after Chrysler dealership closed. Mercedes dealership I go to in Phoenix only uses Mobil 1 0-40 in the cars that say to use it in the owners manual. They do not subsitute 5-30 in 0-40 cars. Maybe when it is gone they will change their tune.

I can only buy Mobil 1 0-40 in quarts.
