Default Floppy cruise control stalk

I did some searching first but couldn't find much useful although I certainly could have missed it.

My cruise control stalk decided to become rather floppy, I don't know exactly what the mechanism looks like but it now just moves freely about instead of up/down and in/out, i don't know if this is something that I might be able to push back into its socket, if something is actually broken and needs replaced, or if i need to disassemble and repair the stalk. The cruise control does not work anymore (i suspect because i can't use the lever to actually engage it).

Before I get around to poking at it (long week and i just want to relax right now), i figured id see if anyone else has had this issue or has any thoughts.

For the record: everything was working just fine, and then it wasn't. I didn't notice a cracking sound/feedback or get the feeling that something had actually broken
