I am considering installing the Borla exhaust system on my wife's 2004 Crossfire. Has anyone had any experience with this yet? Thanks

Here is the latest (15 minutes ago) from AJ-USA, Inc. They contacted Borla and the response was that the exhaust is in final development and should be ready in about two to four weeks. As for increased horsepower, no data available. I had the car up on our lift and it should be a simple installation for a catback. Three bolts and three rubber hangers. If it follows our previous experience with Borla exhaust systems it should sound great. Stay tuned!

 

What Borla exhaust for Crossfire?? Post a link if you have one...

I think as far as most of us know, there is not an available aftermarket exhaust for it.

I do know Borla is a quality company, and I'm sure the exhaust will work well. I like the stock exhaust though.. it's just noisy enough for me, but if an aftermarket one will give it more hp I might be interested.

I asked my Upsolute rep what the next step was to more ponies. He recommended first off K&N Filters (okay already, I know your results so I'll be shopping for those) and then a replacement exhaust, primarily to get the stock cat out and put in a 400 <insert gobbledegook stuff here> replacement and more free-flowing muffler and pipes. His estimate was ~$1300 installed, but since I'm his first Crossfire he'd like to talk further to me about using my car as sort of a prototype which would cut my cost by ~50%. Beyond the chip and K&N's, he said I'd probably get ~10-12 more HP from the less restrictive exhaust system yet stay street legal and VA emissions legal. Hmmm.... have to talk to the financial advisor :P

Startech has a sport system for about $1500.00 but I don't know if it will help the HP. See album

 

Just curious... 10-12 hp more for $1,300 after spending only $400 for the chipping and the extra 30 HP or so you got from that? Do you think 10-12 more horses justifies that much $$$? Just looking on the practical side :wink:

Yes, no problem, and it hasn't stopped raining since the chip went in. Over 48 hours straight (well, dunno bout while I was sleeping), and it's not supposed to stop til 'round noon tomorrow. Sheesh.

I CAN feel the difference driving to work the past two days though.

 

Has anyone checked into under drive pulley's? I've seen them offered for the 3.2L mercedes.I think they stated 13 hp increase.

 

Can anyone post some pictures of the K&N filters? Got them on the little red honda and they're great!!!

Lightened pully's for the belts, like AC, Water Pump, Crank shaft, Alternator. Made out of lighter metals.

The pullyes are also larger reducing the load on the engine (giving a couple more hp). It also lowers the rpm of the component (ie, alternator, powersterring pump, etc.).

 

Wouldn't it require more torque, though, to turn a larger pully? Or does the lighter weight of the pully compensate for the larger diameter in that regard?

 

The larger pully requires less torque to turn.
