Default OBD II MPG Reader

Can anyone reccommend a decent and cheap MPG reader that plugs into the OBD slot?

Cheers!

It's behind the hood release up under the dash.

I have the original version of the Scanguage in my other car and really like it....so much more than just MPG reader. The SG II is smaller, more compact, better display, etc so if I like the original so much I'm sure I'd love the new one. (yeah, I already do, just trying to talk myself out of spending the money on one..... and not doing a good job of that!)

How old is yours? They only recently came out w/ the "3.17 MB" version. I am considering getting this one. Linear Logic said I can send them my older one that we use in our daily driver and they will update it to the MB version so it will interface w/ our 6. Very Cool, but I wouldn't want to always switch it from car to car. They wouldn't confirm it but they teased me saying it "may"read boost #s. I'm kind of doubting it, but would be awesome.

It was a gift approximately one year ago. I have already ordered a Launch Creader IV from Amazon. $45 isn't so bad for peace of mind

Let us know how that works for you. I believe it is only a code reader, and doesn't monitor any engine parameters(gauges) or vehicle economy. Hopefully it will clear the codes and C.E.L. for you as well. For free you can get your SG upgraded.

Yes I just wanted a reader. The SGII is going to be custom installed (permanently) in my Prius anyway.

There was another XF member that had used the Creader IV successfully to pull codes, that's all I'm after.

Thanks

Jeremy

FYI - According the the ScanGaugeII website, the Chrysler Crossfire is listed as incompatible with their device:
ScanGaugeII - Compatible Vehicle List

F.Y.I. - Why would I lie??? I called them direct. Many online merchants are very slow to update their websites. You'd think it would be their top priority as this is all about their sales (cash flow). If you looked a little deeper you'd see that the latest update (version 3.17MB) addresses the compatability w/ MB (thats Mercedes Benz not mega byte). I don't understand why you would believe a merchant; hocking their wares, over a Forum Member. Geeezzz. LOL

The ultimate test, guys, is whether you are able to successfully pull the codes.

I stated I have an earlier software version (apparently) as I only get the Connecting... screen.

If you can get it to work, take a picture! That way people will know for certain that is it compatible.

I'm curious about this myself. I will be sending my current SGII in for update this fall. Right now it is too important to me in my turbo diesel work truck monitoring I.A.T., Coolant Temp,Trans.Temp, and alt.output. It does not monitor boost levels for me as it is. I have other device for EGT's and Boost. Perhaps another Forum Member could send theirs in sooner for the free update and let us know. If not, I will report my findings in a couple of months. As I posted before; I tried to get the answer from them about reading boost in the SRT, but they couldn't confirm. There seems to be only one way to find out. Bob

buy a cheap vacuum gauge, just run a vac line inside the car, and keep the needle at the highest vac setting when driving. regulate your throttle as neccessary..

I remember first doing this back in the mid 70's when gas skyrocketed to over $1.00 and we had gas rationing(remember odd/even?) We used the vacumn gauge to watch fuel economy. It is a great way to monitor your lead foot, and used properly can get you better mileage than using the cruise control. But who wants to monitor fuel efficiency in a sports car? Especially an SRT. And this doesn't tell us if the SGII reads boost in the SRT. My bet is that it will not. Zeitronix may be in my future, but not the priority right now.

Bought the UltraGauge a couple weeks ago. Works fine. $60 after rebate.
