Default KEY Question

When I bought my SRT it only had one key/fob the person I bought it from told me I could go online and find another key with the same FCCID and other numbers on the back of the key. Than i could program the key myself.

I found keys that match all of the numbers on the back of my key but They are all Mercedes keys. If the Numbers and letters match on the back of the fob do you think the blade will be the same?

I called a local Chrysler dealer and they told me the only way to get a new key is to order it through them and they would have a laser cut key made to match my VIN.

so do i shell out $200 to the dealer to have a factory key made or do you believe if all the numbers match the blade should be the same?

You could try this site, They claim you need to furnish Vin# and mileage as they order from mercedes.

Sorry to say the short answer is the codes don't mean anything to your Crossfire. You need to order a new key from a dealer or other reputable source. There is a transponder that has to be matched by VIN to start your car. There are no cheap ways around it. I've tried all the ways possible and have a drawer full of dead keys!

The short answer is buy one from a Chrysler dealer. That's the only way you'll be sure to get one that will work.

The ebay keys cannot be reprogrammed for your car - without some super special tool rumored to be possessed by some dealerships (but not any that I've found). I've got three or four of them lying around. The only purpose they have is if you want to take the plastic case off it and put a "new" case on your old key's guts.

As for buying a new key from Chrysler, shop around. You should not have to pay more than $160. Most dealers will mail/ship them to you as long as you're the registered owner. So call around and find the best deal. The key will come from the same place in Germany no matter which dealer you order it from.

I had to buy one for my SRT6 and then one for the 2007 when my son lost a key. They were @ US$140. I had to give my VIN to the Chrysler dealer parts dept and they ordered the laser cut key. Programming it to your ignition is easy -- it is documented in this forum several times. Do a search.
