Question throttle/gas pedal issues

I was driving to work this morning and suddenly the gas pedal would not respond, had to press it all the way down to get a response...had to release very soon as it would eventually kick in full mode. During my stop and go commute, it would respond faster (less pressing) at times, but it was usually all the way down to get some throttle response. Weird thing is no check engine light ever came on. Recently, I started noticing that for a split second it would do this, but never had to press down that much as it would respond very quickly...now it's that I understand what was happening as it would only be for a second and I would be going (not accelerating from a stop) and I could not really point to the issue (I thought it was a gear or something else). Like i said, the check engine light has not come on recently or during this event. To add to my cluelessness, I parked the car at work...went back after about 20 minutes, started the car...and magically the problem disappeared, even drove the car around the parking lot...no issue, no check engine light.

I hope anyone can send me in the right direction as to what the issue may be.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated...just thinking it could be any of the following:
 • Accelerator Pedal Sensor
 • Throttle Control Motor
 • Throttle Position Sensor
 • Power Control Module
If any of these was the issue, shouldn't I get a check engine indicator?

Did some research for M-B's SLK 320 and there are reports of this being common, but can't find a definite diagnose.

How many miles on the car? Any work done lately? Some more details may help.
Using high octane? Maybe just a bad batch of gas?
Have you researched the crank position sensor problems on here?

Just a few suggesties.

Check your battery. Depending on the age of the car, our cars have had numerous strange issues pop up due to battery problems. Even though the car may start easily, if you have an 04/05/06 Crossfire and it has the blue top white body battery start there before you go digging into the sensors.

i had the EXACT same problem happen to me several weeks ago. it had rained earlier in the day and i was flooring it at just about every stop sign. at the last stop sign i pressed on the gas pedal and nothing, pressed in further and nothing, no spongy resistance. pressed all the way in and finally got a burst of speed. got to the burger place, parked it, and waited about 15 minutes. turned it back on and everything was fine. i think this was my cars way of letting me know it doesn't liked being hooned :S

Also worth checking the simple stuff first - make sure the wiring harness connector is fitted properly in the top of the gas pedal, may be pullit of and push back on again. Try the throttle reset procedure which just takes a min to do. good luck!

the car didn't do it again util yesterday...only this time it gave me a check engine indicator....plugged in the scanner and it showed code P0121-Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor.

Now I'm going to do some research on this and see if I can tackle it myself...thanks guys for all your suggestions! keep them coming

You were in the LIMP mode. I had to take mine apart to clean it and odo a posting to show whats inside. There are two differential signals to insure accurate control i.e. safety. Woody
