I need help guys please , I have a rattle almost like a warn roller bearing. Doesn’t happen when the car is running from cold or when still, only after I’ve been booting it or after long journeys, it will happen whilst travelling in reverse and first and second gear and while shifting through them, whether I depress clutch or not. I’ve listened to the engine and doesn’t appear to come from there?

 

Assuming you have ruled out the very commom rear hatch rattle on Coupes, I would start at the exhaust first. I found an exhaust rattle on mine that took me two months to find thinking it was hatch related. It only happened when hot as the the system expands enough that the muffler would move back enough that the muffler mounting flange rubbed slightly on the mounting bracket fixed to the car. The system actually moved 3/8" when it got hot. Good luck...rattles drive me @&#* nuts!!

 

I had a rattle that turned out to be from the second cat. on the left side. replaced the cat. and noise was gone.

The first time I heard the noise was when going over a bridge from start, under light torque. I had to search hard while on a rack with brake on and engine under torque "Power braking". It was hard to find even then.Tthis was on my SLK32 AMG with 60K miles.
