Just wondering if it'll make a big difference with the gas mileage. I turn if OFF most of the time to save my tire's threadlife if I'm just cruising around the city.

I noticed that I'm only getting 19 miles per gallon instead of 21 in city driving. I'm not sure also if my Upsolute chip is responsible for it due to the increased low end torque or the kind of fuel I use which is 93 octane.

 

I think having it on will actually improve your tires tread life...

 

Cyril.... mightyjr is absolutely right. Leaving the ESP on will save your tires. It prevents you from losing traction. I would think it helps with fuel mileage also. The only time I turn the ESP off is when I'm autocrossing or any time I want to get better performance (like trying to beat someone at a light).

 

Did you also have the air conditioner running?

That will take 2-3 mpg. At least that is what I am seeing with my car.

 

I always have my airconditioning run all the time at "1" but I don't know how they got the city=21 and highway=27..is that with AC off?

 

They always do fuel mileage tests with the A/C off. I think they probably even make sure they have a tail wind. :lol:

I'll be gasing mine up tomorrow. I haven't checked my mileage in a while (since a/c weather anyway) so I'll check and see what I'm getting now.......That's assuming my loan has been approved so I can pay for the gas. :lol: :lol: :lol:

 

I think they do mpg tests on Dynos which doesn't have the same effect as city driving stop and go. So, you really can't go by the sticker for actual mileage. This may change in the future??

 

I just gased up and I had 237.1 miles and took 10.503 gal. that's 22.57 mpg. (60% interstate 40% city) a/c was on about 98% of the time.

 

I'm thinking maybe a home equity line of credit will be required soon just to keep fuel in my baby so I can drive to work and get a paycheck. I REALLY need to get my company to let me telecommute at least one day a week... that'd cut my fuel bills by almost 20%, and save some mileage (I'm at ~4600 miles since 1 Feb.).

As you said...Cyril, I'd expect tire treadlife to be LESS if you're constantly driving with ESP off and letting your wheels spin. A/C doesn't help either, especially in city driving. Your car is likely more fuel efficient at city speeds with the windows down rather than A/C on, but I can understand how in TX that just ain't an option this time of year!

 

Would the traction control mechanism not make a difference in gas mileage? I mean, the engine is still producing the same amount of power, it really depends on how the traction control works. I would think that it's just some kind of dampener in the transmission that reduces torque output. In which case the engine would still be using the same amount of gasoline, the transmission would just diffuse the power along the powertrain. I don't know how the traction control system works on the Crossfire, but that's all I can think of. Another option is that it lightly applies the brakes. Does anyone know actually how the traction control prevents wheel spin?

But yes, with traction control on you'll get better tread-life, and A/C takes a huge hit in performance and economy. I seriously doubt that ESP has any impact on gas mileage.

Okay, so slightly more brake wear, but also better gas mileage.

I'd honestly expect negligible brake wear and a negligible increase in gas mileage. I couldn't image your wheels breaking loose enough during normal driving for the ESP to take control of the engine's throttle.

 

esp on or off should not make any differance to the gas milage unless you are doing quick starts. if you have an auto running it in W instead of S makes a big differance.
my auto averages 27+ on a tank with 50% motorway at 80 to 100mph/town20/40mph

send me a bucketfull of gas at $2 a gallon, ours in the uk is ��4 or the equivalent of $6 a gallon

 

Running the auto in W always starts you in second gear. I've been trying this of late too, and have noticed a mild increase (~1 mpg).

yikes :!: :!: :!: Though I can't buy $2/gallon gas anywhere near here any more (93 premium $2.29/gallon, beats $6 though ).
