engine runs rough, loses power
I was driving the car the other morning, the car started to run rough at redlight, then had no power, would not go above 1200 rpm, no throttle response. I cleared the intersection, and it cleared up and ran great the rest of the day. It was acting like there was water in the fuel? Then yesterday, it did the same thing from a cold start in driveway. I turned off, restarted, and it was fine.
ANy thoughts?
thanks

WELCOME TO THE FORUM!
Search for CPS or crank position sensor.
Sounds like your problem.
P.S. You can visit when you don't have car problems too!

Confirm the integrity of the rubber seal between the throttle body and the supercharger also, they can split and open the intake, the engine goes into limp..Woody
So I ordered the new CPS and start to install. I notice the part of the wire clip laying next to the sensor on the bellhousing. Any tips how to replace the clip that locks the connector into place?
You will have to replace the connector as the latch is part of the connector housing (PITA)...... so was the connector loose and causing your problem?? or still firmly connected but with broken latch??

Can I just buy a new connector and solder into place? Part number?
thanks

Bend it to 90 degrees and bolt the CPS on with it under the bolt.
Use a couple of small tie-wraps, one around the wire before the connector, the other through that one and the other hole in the bracket you made.
Voila'
So I installed new CPS and today, when leaving work. car started but ran rough and almost stalled. I re started three more times, then it ran fine all of the way home, including a fuel stop.
What should I check next?

I hate to say this, but it has happened. Some of the CPS sensors are bad from the get go. You wouldn't think it, but there it is. You had connections problems with it as well. It must be seated properly to work. Just a few thoughts. It sure is acting like a CPS sensor.
Or am I wrong and you just installed a second one?
I know this is reaching a bit, but do a couple of "throttle resets"... The throttle position sensor could be causing a hesitation which would make it idle rough at first start up...

the throttle reset is pretty simple to do, so here goes. Turn the key to the ON position. Just ON, don't start it. Now press the throttle all the way to the floor board. Hold the throttle down for a count of 5, now keep holding the throttle down, and turn the key OFF. Now, let the throttle off. Give it a few seconds to do it's reset. This doesn't always work the first time. Kind of like resetting the oil change indicator. LOL...PITA... The throttle by wire has a sensor as well, and well as the throttle itself. I had the rubber cover run up the post on mine, caused it to stick one day. Others have had the floor mat get tangled up causing the throttle to stick. Make sure all is well with the throttle peddle itself. Not bent to one side, or the rubber cover distorted. At least worth a try, and it does need to be reset from time to time. The car's memory will affect performance. Good luck
