Default Questions for you AVIC-N1 folks

Hello everyone. Had my X-fire for a month got the Magnaflow and the 3M Clear Bra in the first week.

Just purchased the AVIC-N1 unit and have an excellent person to install it. Just wondered if any of you folks changed your speakers out, or used the stock speakers and connected the amp to the unit.

Those that are curious, I live in Palm Beach Gardens Florida and have a 6 speed on my X-fire. My husband has a Mangnum RT. Got the X-Fire after I made the deal for the Magnum, just could not take my eyes off the car!

Thanks for any input. I have found these boards very informative.

Thanks Boba, and (I think) judging by your name I would say you are also a big Star Wars fan like myself.

I am thinking about 86ing the 6" woofers back there and putting in the Infinity 10" powered sub. I would love the put the 5.1 decoder in it and have full surrond, would take the 6" woofers out and put a nice packed back there for the surround effect. Difficult to determine where a should put a center speaker, but the guy that is doing mine for me has built many a show car so I have lots of confidence in him

There are two projects I would like to do to this car if I had the mass amount of money... a) remove the tire thing area... its all plastic... cut it out... design a sub + amp area with lighting... not even for the fact of more sound... just to have people look in there and be like... HOLY THATS WICKED RETARDED!!!! ... kinda like the whole ghetto ricer thing... but in the Xfire it would look uber cuz I would have it in the shape of an X with PC boards and what not running.... would be a great spot to through in a small pc to hook up to the DVD screen.... if I ever did that also I would be running a massive system... something strong enough to do compiling + adv. gaming system... run a Dual boot OpenBSD + XP Pro on it with like 250 gig hard ... it has to have room to fit my 25,000 mp3 collection.... and my 140 DVD-R collection lol!!

b) would be to take out the stupid cup holder.... put a small nitrous bottle in there... about the same size of a paintball C02 tank.... hook braided hosing up to the side vents of the Xfire... and then two to some area at the top of the hood... and when you pressed a button it would fire Nitrous out the vents! would look sweet and scare the ricers with real nos away LOL!

and yes I was a huge star wars fan!! I havent really been into it for a few years... but I developed the name when I was very young about 6th grade... it was BobaFettmm ... but long story dropped it to m... and its just always has been my name in everyone... even paintball... so its very much a part of me now even without the star wars hidden under meaning!

That would be a very nice set-up.

I think I am going thru a mid-life crisis early I am 38. I used to have a competition show car in the late 80's as the mobile electronics stuff was really beginning to take off. Cerwin Vega and Alpine were sponsers to me back then, and yes I did have the IROC Z in those days to match!

I am so tempted to deck the X-fire out with a major stero upgrade. buying this AVIC-N1 unit is a major upgrade, and I did go out this morning with my husband and bought the Infinity 10" powered sub (basslink 10) and I also bought the Infinity Kappa 52.5I 5-1/4 speakers to put in the place of the woofers behind the seats. I just don't like the way those sound. I'm going to leave the doors alone until I see how all this stuff sounds hooked up. I think the stock Infinity amp should power these nicely along with the head unit itself as the bass is self powered.

I figure going with the basslink 10 will give me all the power I need. I don't like a lot of "boom." I like a nice balanced system. I think I will hold with this for now, but ask me next weekend after I have everything installed this week, and I may still have the car laid up because I went ahead and told my install guy to "go for it!" If I do have to put her up for long I still have my SVT Focus to drive (I couldn't trade it, I like the bang for the buck you get with it and I can keep the X-fire miles low, my business is 28+ miles from my home).

ahhh! thats a whole lotta bass!!! LOL! ... I enjoy bass but I just haven't found the need to really do it in the Xfire yet... actually im gonna go look in the truck area right now and see what I could do with it! I though of some sweet ideas to really make it special and awesome... the whole X idea would look amazing in there as long as I could make it fit... some awesome blue lighting inside there also... really give it some style and shine... since I can't really add a lot of horse power parks without killing the warranty... I thought I can at least make it look every bit performance!

How much is the Avic-N1 in the US? I'm over there in two weeks time and am thinking of getting one and bringing it back to the UK to save me some money. Thanks.

Default AVIC-N1

Hi Saldous

I wouldnft bother; you can pick one up installed from ’1600 in the UK. (ill find the website for you.)

If you buy one in the US you will have to spend another c’300 on the Europe disk.

I think the difference with the AVIC-N1(USA) and the AVIC-X1 (Europe) other than the disk, is the traffic information is received in a different format in the USA so you may lose that functionality.

If you want to install yourself (Ifm doing mine with the phone system this weekend, in Camberley) you can get it from www.dabs.co.uk or http://www.incarexpress.co.uk/view_p...?partno=AVICX1

Donft know if you have seen this forum on the AVIC http://www.avicx1forums.com but full of useful info on the system.

PS your PDF file 1656... (i think i know what it is, :wink but d/loads as a crupt file. Any chance you could check it for us?!

Regards Richard

Hi Bungle. Thanks. I'm in Bracknell so you are not far from me.

$1600 = ’890 which is a lot cheaper than ’1,600! Even with ’300 for the Europe disks it is still ’300+ cheaper than buying it all in the UK. Where can you order Europe disks from?

I would fit it myself most likely. Where are you going to put the Sat receiver?

Re. Traffic information. Is this a standard feature or do you have to subscribe to something to get it?

I hadn't seen the Avic forum, thanks, I'll go take a look there now.

From reading those forums it looks like it is a no go for getting a N1 and using in Europe. The DVD map disk is a different region encoding, radio tuning doesn't work the same, no RDS info etc.. Looks like they have forced us to buy a more expensive one! However, the X1 is the European one. So, If I buy one in say Italy, I assume apart from the manual being in Italian (I can download the english one from their web site) it should be the same?

Also, points of interest. If I am driving along and want to find the nearest petrol stations to where I am , does it do this? I have an IPAQ with Navman sleeve at the moment. The TOMTOM 3 software does thi but the Smart ST Professional software that came with the Navman sleeve doesn't do this.

Hi Saldous.

We should catch up some time. I hadn't thought about the receiver position, just expecting to install on the dash or something? Any better ideas? Boba where have they/you put yours?

Re the POI's it is very easy, just touch the POI menu and select the type of category you want. Looking at the Manual you have Restaurant, Petrol Station, Automotive (Garage and vehicle dealers) Transport (Bus station rail etc) Shopping, Hotels etc. You get the closest ones displayed with the mileage from your current location. If you enter one mid guidance, it will just add it to the route as a waypoint.

I was planning to put a multi disc changer in the first aid boot hole, other side to the tyre kit. Do you know if it will fit? I was also looking at this :

http://www.hitchcam.com/images/FrameCAM_Data_Sheet.pdf

but i think the UK licences plates are larger/longer than the US's. It should be modifiable though. I can't figure out how to get the cable back through to the boot space without drilling the body work which i donft really want to do. :? or put something like this between the exhaust and the chassis...

Thanks for the info re. POI. Have you installed yours yet? Any pics of it?

I would also like that reversing camera. I'm sure there must be a way to wire it up easy, run the cable through the roof?

Default Installed AVIC-N1

Hi everyone:

Just had my stuff installed yesterday. Man I am happy. I put a Basslink 10 in and removed the woofers. In the place of those I put the Infinity Kappa 5-1/4 speaker system in (installer did slight mod, but those speakers look like they always belonged there). Took out amp, and the installer put the "brain" of the unit where the amp was.

The Basslink is self powered at 200 Watts and I am using the built in amp from the Avic to power the front door panels and the Kappas. Sound is amazing.

I have posted a couple of pictures, however, I am having trouble uploading the pics of the Basslink and the Kappa's behind the seats. Will try later on to get them in my album. However, if someone wants them before I can post them in my album, just send me a message and I will email all the photos I have.

I was able to get the basslink picture in my album, but as I said I am having trouble gettting the photo's to post. Keep getting this page can't be displayed when I try to upload. I will keep trying to upload the shot of the back wall with the Kappas installed back there.
