Default Seriously considering Avic-X1

Hi all, I am seriously considering getting this unit. It is the European version of the Avic-N1.

I have a few questions though:

1) How easy was this to install? Did it take long? How did you connect up the parking brake and speed wires?

2) Where did you install the "hidden box" that has the connection for reversing camera etc.?

3) Where did you mount the gps receiver?

4) If you have the CD changer as well, where did you mount this? I don't like the idea of taking the map DVD in and out all the time so will look to get the changer.

5) Anyone in the UK with one? If so, do you have the new disk with the updated postcode/town search? If so, is it a lot better and does it work ok? I've read reports the old disk is hard to find places on.

6) Did you have to order any other cable kits to connect power/speakers or did you simply unplug the stock unit and plug this one in (obviously you also had the extra box, parking brake, speed wire and gps receiver to wire up.) But any other cables required?

7) With the angle of the unit in the dash, is the screen easy to see and not too distracting when driving?

8 ) I've heard if you mute the beeping, if you switch the car off and then on again it looses this setting and will beep again. Is this true?

Thanks. Sorry for all the questions but you lot are very knowledgeable and saves me asking some dum-*** in Halfords who doesn't know his left from his right!

1) Because of my discounted prices I have the installs done at RKST
2) No clue... I don't have the rear camera didnt find a need in a car that small
3) GPS = front right dash board... you barely see it cuz its so small
4) I dont like CD changers... I just keep a folder of DVD's + CD's in my console next to me...
5) null
6) From what I've heard it comes with it all there pretty fast and easy install other then the gauges thinger... that was a key reason why I didnt wanta install it ... cuz I didnt know what to do with that...
7) You can move the screen around up and down... to get it perfect for your style... Distracting? ... only if you got Pr0n running lol...
8) Hum... the beeping... you mean when you press the buttons... I havent tried to they are rather small and if your watching a movie it isnt going to beep at you...

I love this unit.. I looked at all the other ones first... I check out the sweet force feed back ones where you touch the screen and it reacts to your touch.. but its clarity cant compete... you need this unit in the xfire cuz of the gauges! its so sweet to watch yourself pull over +10 angular velocity on the guage... and try to beat it the next time around .... its almost like a mini video game but with your life at stake! its uber sweet!!!

I'm still holding on to the Avic N1...which is so far has all the gadgets I needed to have on my XFIREX. If Avic-N1 only have the silver color...I would have been the second one in a XF to have it...next to Bobafettm

I just can stand a black color next to the silver console. CarToys offered to do a silver paint job to match my console, but it was never close to the silver the XF have.

I'm still pondering for months now whether to put blue neon lights in the interior. I've changed the dome light and trunk with blue bulbs to match my blue door sill plate. They look cool on Boba's XF and if you look at the ME Four Twelve interior, it has lights under the dash

How easy was it to install Bobafettm? Do you have an independent switch for it?

Hi Bmerfan, where did they locate the CD changer in the car? Is it in the boot? How much did they charge you for install? Where did you get it from? Is the postcode searching working now on the new map disk?

Thanks.

I have my installed by RKST again I get it all super cheap and they do the install for me so it works out in the end lol!

I have two switches right now... one for casual driving that turns on .. one light under each dash... and one light under each seat.... the second switch turns on 3 more behind each seat... 1 above the console and one in the trunk area... my dealer completely ran out of lights otherwise i would have been done with lighting last friday... but this is the new plan...

adding one more above the console... right where we have that pouch thing... i have one below it... im gonna add one more above it also... then two more 4in in the trunk spot... I have one in the center right by the two little clip thingys... the 2 will be on the left and right side of the trunk... then one 20in led bar in the farthest rear part of the trunk aiming inward... these will all be hooked to light switch two... so i can casual drive ... or show time drive lol... also on switch two will be either 2 - 4 LED bars in the grill area.... so the front of the car will shine blue also when i hit the switch....

sorry to off topic that! that was my bad but Cyril asked a question

now back to the Pioneer!!!
