That's what the hole is for, you put a hex wrench in it ( like the pretty picture ) and twist.
The spring plate thingey you see inside mounted by the Torx screw latches and unlatches from the windshield mount.

Go to 8N-68 in the 2004 Service Manual for instructions to take the mirror of the vase. Use a 3/16" or 13/64" drill. It was a bit frustrating to do at first as was putting it back together.
