Default custom turbo

So i read alot in magazines about how they just make their own turbo kits, buy all the neccesary parts and get a custom manifold made. it seems as if the only thing you need to do to turbocharge any car is get a custom turbo manifold and possibly a custom exhaust. is this true, or am i way off. Its not that i think the xfire is slow, but i just need more power. thats probably because my last car was a 350 horsepower first generation rx7. i like the xfire much, much more, but i just like racing in straight lines every now and then and i dont want to get spanked by an rsx type s with bolt ons. i want to avoid any sort of, "thats not what this car was built for" discussion, because i feel any car you get can essentially be made into what you want when it comes to speed. So please, only guys (and gals) with technical knowledge respond to the turbocharging question, thank you much.
If turbocharging involves more (im sure i would need an ecu upgrade too, but i already have a standalone unit from my last car) then ill probably go nitrous, like i was discussing in a previous topic. im just looking for a low boost app., like 5-9 psi, really looking to increase the midrange highway acceleration.
thanks again

Dont bother, would need 2 turbos for the 2 manifolds. Better of supercharging it, proven AMG Mercedes results

X'ed:

Much research on the subject...
LordNikon is correct... OEM supercharger for the SRT is mfg'd by IHI Turbo... Product #S105... Water to air Intercooler is mfg'd by Garrett...

That's only the start... Then you have to deal with the 10% reduction in compression for the SRT, Cam, Injectors, ECU upgrade, etc...

To make a long story short, after weeks of phone calls and e-mails, the cost of upgrading your Limited Edition to SRT specs. will cost nearly $5,000.00 more than buying an SRT...

And then with a few thousand $$$ you can turn that SRT into 350--400HP...

I'm in the same boat as I weekend race my Limited Edition and need more HP... But the economics are telling me to order the SRT and take a bite on my trade-in... Then mod. it to 400+ and change the auto stick to a manual tranny...

its this ugly thing that is flooded through michigan... I dislike EVERY new corvette since 95 because its mass produced for rich snobby doctors... but the new C6 is cool... the front end sorta looks like a morphed Rx7... because of its recessed lighting... modded front end of a rx7 btw ...

I would rather do turbo personally... not really for the benefit of speed... for the benefit of I loved the damn noise... twin turbo would be hot on the Xfire with a big *** Greddy BOV that would be heard for about 1/4 !!!

C6 is newest corvette. Base is 400hp, $45k
Z06 = 500hp, $60k
Blue Devil = 700-750hp, $$$(if you gotta ask...)

I would recommend the C6 base, with the Z51 package ($2k) which has the autocross/track suspension goodies...

The blue devil would be around 110-140k so they say. And the chances of the Blue Devil making it to production are the same chances of me hooking up with Elizabeth Hurley. As for X'ed if you want more power just do what i am thinking about. I'm thinking about buying something else just for straight line because the way i was looking at it you can do it cheaper. You(well i can friend is a wholesaler) can get a 99 Lightning yes i know its a truck for around $10-12k. Dump a few k in that bam 11 second beast on pump gas. Just my .02
