Exclamation NEED NEW Lock Barrel Cylinder - Will this work?

Hello,

My ignition recently became harder and harder to turn the key, then finally it could not turn at all.

I had a mechanic have a look at it and he said it needs a new lock barrel install which can be coded to match my key.

He said to find one online because it will be cheaper. Is this what I need?

CYLINDER. Ignition Lock. . Convertible, Coupe. for 2004 CHRYSLER CROSSFIRE RWD, 3.2L V6 SOHC 18 Valve, 5-Spd Automatic (05101710AA)

EDIT - JUST WANNA SAY THAT I GOT MY MOBILE CAR REPAIRER TO COME AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS POSTED BELOW, AND HE MANAGED TO DO IT WITHIN 2 HOURS AND NOW THE CAR IGNITION WORKS PERFECTLY! THANK YOU!

Print the tutorial and let him read it:

https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...n-key-fix.html

Have him follow this, and maybe lube the mechanisms while he's in there. While it is POSSIBLE you have a new problem, I doubt it. I suspect this will fix it.

Might be easier just to get a new barrel. If so, is that the one I need? (see link above)

If it is what I think it is, the lock barrel is fine. I can't think of a forum member replacing the lock barrel, ever.

It's the mechanism in the steering lock that goes bad, NOT the lock tumblers (which are what is set up to match your key).

I can't tell what they are selling you - the picture IMPLIES they are selling you EVERYTHING, but I don't believe that. I think they are just selling you the tumblers/cylinder, which misses the mark completely. But I can't say for sure. You could call them and see if they can tell you just what is included (and hope their computer image/information is accurate.)

This is another example of where people get steered wrong, the way our lock fail is... well, kinda odd. A small cam that is part of the steering wheel lock mechanism jams - causing the key to not turn at all. But the problem IS NOT the lock or cylinders, it's the cam in the arm that locks the wheel.

I have a hard time believing you have a new, as-yet-undiscovered, failure. It COULD be, but I have a hard time believing it. Again, print the tutorial in my link and let the guy read thru it. If I am right, he'll have it fixed in under two hours without any parts.

And after he does the repair, the wheel will still lock - the tutorial implies that it wont, but it will. See my sigline, I've been thru this with my car.

That part number is just for the tumbler cylinder and will not be of any use. I got that info from the parts list.

Thanks, Dave. I was really under the weather last night, too sore and tired to try to look anything up.

Followed the instructions. Works perfectly! Thank you! You saved me 3 months waiting time for new parts and $500 in installation! It now works like twisting a hot knife in butter! =)

Here it is, 2013, and the fix is still fixing! Thanks for the sticky ignition fix. I'm one of them that had to Dremmel out the assembly and put it back in. Took out that spare part and it works perfectly!! Thanks for posting!!
