Talking I just ordered a new johnson pump CM90P7-

I have been doing lots of research on the intercooler and the process of keeping it cool. I did a tear down of my car today to test the parallel IC and even tried measuring the flow without an IC in the piping. Photos to follow with write up in a couple of days.

What I found out that the cm30 pump does not have much pressure capacity *1.

To effectively move the heat out of a parallel IC, the smaller cm30 pump is a limiting factor, and so I purchased a CM90P7- with greater flow and pressure capacity. *2. This pump is similar in design 12 volts and uses 3/4 " fittings and should provide me better information in the car. Before it starts, the pump is capable of less than 10 PSIG of water pressure and I have tested the core at over 100PSIG, THE PUMP IS NOT CAUSING IC FAILURES, ITS THE THERMAL FLEXING OF THE TUBES DURING HEAT AND COOL CYCLING.

When I get the pump running Ill show the results and see if it is worth consideration for the serious car dudes. The best price with free shipping is $250 so its not too expensive as an upgrade. I will be changing the hoses to make use of the larger tube fittings, the fittings on the IC will also be enlarged to 3/4"

THe super cooler will be used fully with this pump, and the IC parallel path core will be flowing like crazy, the goal here. Move out the heat and make advantage of the better IC design.

Wdy Enjoy

Great writeup, this is exactly what I have done this weekend. I have taken away all the OEM hoses which is a big restriction with many bends and turns and instead put in new hoses with less bends and much larger inner diameter. I have testet the flow with and without the supercooler and didn't see any difference in the flowrate. I did whant to read the preassure drop over the supercooler but didn't manage to get any readings from dashdaq. I don't know why, maybe be sensor is failing or the preassure is not high enough to give me a signal.
I'm about to build a second heatexchanger in the front of the supercooler, the same idea that you have. But I need to test the parallell vs the serial connection. Somebody says parallell and other people say that I should go serial.

We could make a group buy of the second heatexchanger if other people are interested?

I think that the CM90 does a great job, my car has been apart since march this year so I can not say how it performance in daily driving bit I think that this pump is the solution for increasing the cooling performance.

A second heat exchanger may be overkill, as I am using the supercooler and feel that it is big enough for most all applications.

I need to do a flow chart comparison of the two pumps ( 30 and 90 ) and restriction measurment of the two styles of IC units - parallel and standard factory series water path. This will allow the matching of the system and determine how much the larger hoses and fittings are needed.

All and all this study has promise and may yield improved IATs. We have come a long way from the asthmatic factory units we were previously using.

I finally found a good chart of the pumps were using and the new 90 series that I ordered. As you can see it is about DOUBLE the head pressure. This should overcome the restriction with in the water circuit on our cars. I feel that this should make a significant improvement especially with the parallel flow intercooler that I have been working. Enjoy, WDY

The flow difference is up to 4x the 30 series pump!! And 8 PSIG versus 5 PSIG is significant for sure.

The factory pump is rated at 20 liters per minute open flow, without restriction:

Here is the pump as delivered, my series 90 pump for your enjoyment. I have a motor speed control on order so that this can be controlled for daily or high power operation depending on the setting. I will be doing testing with hot water to show the relative gain of parallel water flow versus stock 3 pass 'series' water circuiting provide. Its bigger and will require some planning to install in the car neatly.

Hope the holiday was good to all of you - I drove N.C. to V.A. for 600 miles and found the roads mostly passable. Woody

Its also mag drive and same 5000 hour life rated.

It will be interesting to see the results of a parallell HE. I'm about to order one.
The 90 pump actually fitted in the same place as the original with some modification.

Here is more in the way of background information, from our cousins mb word. Some there are also running this pump.

Currently Iam testing the flow, as I have my setup working and ready to gather data on flow and pressure drop. Woody Enjoy.

I had a mag drive circulation pump in my hot tub, it ran for 10 years non stop. It finally had to be replaced with their new design, it lasted one year. I put the mag pump back in for another 6 months until it really crapped out.
Progress? or were they not making money on spare pumps.

Mag pumps are brilliant, complete mechanical separation of motor and pump.
