Default 3 weeks in the making.

Been refining the system over this summer. Got the system installed and working this spring. Fine tuning is where the science turns into an art especially if you are a perfectionist, looking for that perfect sound and OEM look. I.E. my downfall.

Looks great! Did you hide the switches somewhere? Or are they hooked into the touch screen?

Fantastic! Best mod I've seen yet. Would love to have that in my car, but gota have the AC vents.

Do you think it could be done by getting rid of the ash tray, lighter and Airbag light at the bottom of the stack and putting in smaller AC vents at the top ????

That really is a nice piece of work......

D/C should think seriously about adding it!

Now if only the Heating/Cooling controls could be built in to the touch screen controls, and then the vents could be re-installed.

Chris: So how much did this end up costing you to do?

I am really impressed!

Default Its not the cost so much it is the time it has taken...

cost is actual not an issue..... all together I have $1325 in the project including navi software maps a copy of XP home and the gps satelite receiver, XM PCR w/antenna, a 100 watt Alpine V power amp to carry the signal to the stock crossover and a 555 delay timer for the power up of the amp so I don't hear any boot up noises during the first 40 seconds of boot up.... Got the DC-DC converter inside the pc w/ ITPS for motherboard control power and volt regulation so when I turn off the car the computer powers down like I went to the start menu to power down... really slick.... When I turn the key to accesories or behyond the computer will power up. Just like a normal OEM powered accesory.

All the info and more is on mp3car.com forums that place is a mecca for this kind of stuff. plus it helps having an engineering background (3 years in engineering until I saw the light and switched majors) I knew I would be a good engineer but it was just that I had to work with other engineers that changed my decision

Major face lift to pull it off.... My install really depend on the plastic on the center console to hold the monitor in place the faceplate holds really nothing in place it is all held in behind the console.

The controls I am sure can be done... I however do not know how to convert the switch plate you are speaking of. I am sure I can find someone to take on the project.

Default the project was...

was done over a months time. You could do it in a week if you had everyting turn key including headliner dropped all plastic panels in back out and the rear side carpet out.

Wires runs were the worst. Making sure not to comingle power with sound and usb away from vga.

Couldn't this be done using a motorised flip out screen in place of the crappy stock radio?

I don't want to burst your buble. That is a great install. But I like the stock settings for the buttons and vents.

I've gone through 2 stereos and am on the third one that now has the #8 button not working and it clicks when I start the car.

Cool, but here in Georgia I need COLD.....meaning I couldn't sacrifice the center AC vents just to have a rockin' system. To be honest, I rarely listen to music when in the X-fire.

Nice job tho!

I am sure it could but I find the quality of the flip out rca screens inferior to SVGA high resolution 15 pin connections. RCA has a higher interference factor over long runs and can not handle high resolution computer graphical interface. I find Xenarc monitors superior in quality and there has yet been a manfacture to incapsulate that monitor in a flip out assemble. I am sure you could make one but the OEM look may not be all there.

You have a great opinion thanks for the input.
