Possible blown gasket? Need help plz
About 3 months ago i was driving with my exhaust off from the cats back and down shifted into first. my rpms shot up the car backfired and then shut off. I was traveling so the place i had left from was 80 degrees and the place this occurred was 40 degrees. Not sure if that has anything to do with it bit that was the only variable that had changed from its normal drive. I rolled to a stop and turned it back on and it fired right up and i could tell something was wrong, especially when accelerating. I let it sit for a bit and took it for a drive and when ever i came to a stop the car would start to stall out and when accelerating it would cut out, but when on the highway and going i didnt notice a thing, it obly happened when comming to a stop and the initial acceleration. I was out of town and had an auto zone read the code from ecu te ce light was putting out. The code read airflow issues so i thought maybe a vacume hose or something at first, ended up driving it home and it ran fine on the highway. I have a buddy whos a mechanic and he read the code and said to replace my mass airflow sensor. Bought it and with that the engine stopped stalling out, unfortuneatly the lag in my accelerator did not. It was warm again where i installed the maf sensor and i didnt start noticing the acceleration problem and lack of power till it startd getting colder 55 degrees and below is where i start to notice it. When the engine is cold and i accelerate to 2k rpms the engine boggs down and instatly loses massive amounts of power. To get it to move out of the bog i have to mash the medal to open throttle at witch point the engine jerks the car until i let off the gas. This has happend for almost 2 months now. I have tryed to only drive when warm. I also noticed that my engine was running alot colder than normal so i put my exhaust back on thinking that was the issue. Even with the exhaust back on it was running colder. So my buddy suggested replacing my thermostat which brought the engine temp back up to normal but the issue still exists. Originaly i thought my tps went out and after reading a few threads i thought that was it because all the symptoms matched. I turned it on today and its about 55 degrees out but today it has been surging and the idol was very rough not something i would typicaly think a tps would do. Now im starting to think that i blew a head when i was out of town. Ive had multiple people listen to the engine and none could gear anything that would make them think the gasket was blown. Also when accelerating in first it revs almost like its out of gear but it still moves. Im currently in college so i have a very minimal budget, so if anyone has ideas of what this could be please let me know its getting deeperninto winter obviously so i would like to get this fixed before it gets too cold. Thanks for the help!
Tried to find a link...but you can use the search feature and plug in the following... p0410 secondary air injection system malfunction. See if this isn't your code and the fix you are needing. It is a start anyway.
You are right....as I think he has other problems as well...but I think it is a start given the code description he mentioned... I pm'd him some other possible fixes as well. But, the cold, not heating up, running rough...in the beginning might be associated with the pump.. Maybe not...
