Rear end clunking noise
Please help.... Having new springs fitted all round the car has now developed a "clunking" noise coming from the rear passenger side. It also does it on occasion whilst stationary whilst bouncing the suspension up & down & my friend has suggested it being the"lower rear arm outer rose bush" as this looked damaged whilst changing the spring on that side. Obviously before I go changing parts etc I would like peoples opinions on whether or not it could be this. The noise wasn't there before at all & the moment I set off from having the springs changed it started clunking. Pretty certain that it's not the shock because of the timing it started etc. Evertything has also been double checked to ensure nothing has come undone & seems fine. Anyone had this or shed anymore light please?
The obvious thing to check for is a loose bolt in the suspension since you mention changing a spring.
After that, check all the rubber bushings.

All bolts etc are tight having checked this & the bush in question was the only one showing signs that it needed replacing. Obviously I am no mechanic but it does seem like this part needs replacing. I have been told that the Merc part is exactly the same & more widely available but I need this clarifying before I go ordering one only to find it doesn't fit.
Just talking...recently changed rims/tires on my 2004 coupe...had a clunking noise coming from the rear..the culprit was the lung bolts were a tad too long and were just tipping the rotor... used shorter bolts and sound vanished...However, since you did not change rims/lug bolts, it's probably something striking ...Carl
When my Crossfire developed a clunking noise in the rear, it was a deteriorated bushing that needed replacement. Chrysler products seem to be notorious for their poor bushing lifespans.
Thanks everyone for your replies. I have now ordered the "outer lower bush control arm" as the guy who replaced the springs is convinced it's this at fault. Once fitted I will update this thread, hopefully with good news.
