Default pls help - SRT6 mods effect on emissions tests

Hi all!

I really need help from the experts...

One of the srt6 coupes that I am considering for purchase has the following mods: wavetrac, johnson pump, mod shorty headers, dual CAI, code 3 pulley, and LET tune.

Would any of these mods:
(a) increase emissions and make the car fail the emissions test (I am in DC/VA which require emissions tests every 2 years - i assume the emissions requirements are fairly standard except maybe some states which have none or CA which appears to have the strictest); and

(b) require additional periodic maintenance (beyond what is listed in the SRT6 owner's manual).

Many thanks!

Sounds like a well modified car - you might check the VIN and see if it was owned by a member here on the forum. If it was, they might have some insight on the specifics of the car.

As far as your emissions questions, from the mods you list I can't see anything that would be suspect except for the headers. Depending on what they did to the rest of the exhaust, that would be a concern. Here is a thread that has some members talking about modded cars and emissions testing: https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...mods-tune.html

As far as additional periodic maintenance is concerned, my opinion is that a car that has been modified like this was built to be driven ... hard. With that comes additional maintenance ... just my opinion.

Good luck!!

RL

I doubt that there are headers on the car,

how do they test in your area? obd2? sniff? visual as in the guy actually pops the hood and/or looks under the car?

RL67037, thank you!

NeedsWings:

- The emission test done by running the car and putting a flexible hose on the tail-pipe. Then a computer reads... whatever it reads (likely CO2 emissions?).

- I am novice to the mods world, but it says "LET shorty headers" in the mods list.

The mods shouldn't cause you to fail the emissions as long as the car is in good condition and has the catalytic converters, which is should with LET headers. UNLESS they do a visual inspection like they do in Arizona, California etc. I don't know how tough or easy my local test is but I pass with my mods.

Thanks, Les.

Just took my daily driver (toyota hybrid) for the inspection. I am attaching a snapshot of what the report looks like. It turns out they do an OBD test, visual smoke test and also catalytic converter test (probably the one where they attach a hose to the tail-pipe).

I asked them is there a way for me to check if an out of state car passes the VA inspection. The inspector told me the best thing is to run a computer code test (i guess that's the OBD).

If they do OBD then there is no additional tail pipe test. The OBD willl report on the emissions directly to the computer. Most OBD inspections still include a visual on the catalytic converters. If you have them, and the OBD passes you should be good to go. If they do a "visual" under the hood, I doubt most mods would be readily noticable except for the CAI. In Maryland, they no longer do a visual under the hood, just the OBD and exhaust visual. I have done the DCAI and the Eurocharge ECU Tune and have passed emissions OBD both times. I haven't taken off my cats, nore will I.
