Default overheating problem

hi all i hope someone can give me some advice. my wifes 05 crossfire with a 3.2l sohc used a lot 2gal of coolant over the last 2 wks. there are no obvious leaks anywhere or wet spots under the car. the low coolant light came on every other day. i drove it yesterday for about 30 min and it overheated and popped the upper rad hose at the plastic fitting in the middle of the hose. i replaced the thermostat and repaired the hose with a worm clamp, fail...lasted about 30 min again. anybody have any idea where the water has been going in the first place? thanks for any help

I hate to even think about this but have you checked for the fluid leaking into your engine oil?
How many miles on that car?
Maybe the water pump has lost the impeller that circulates the coolant.
Any plastic bag or something caught against the radiator?

Pull the engine oil dipstick.
If it looks gray, or is not 100% engine oil, then you have a serious problem.
Could be as simple as a blown head gasket, and you MAY be able to salvage the engine.
I hate to be a downer, but if 2 gallons of water/antifreeze have been going through the engine for 2 weeks, I don't hold out much hope for it.

Check the dipstick. If you see foam or a milky color the antifreeze is getting into the oil. If your popping the radiator hose off the cooling system, perhaps it's being pressurized by the engine i.e. head gasket leak. But don't waste time or money, pull the dipstick and look.
