Default New Member Question. creaking sound coming from the rear of car.

Hi,
I have recently noticed a sort of creaking sound coming from the rear of my 2004 crossfire auto coupé, it only starts when in slow moving traffic but when back up to speed no creaking sound not even on bumpy road of speed humps.

Any ideas,

Many thanks,
Peg.

I think this may be your brakes. I notice a noise (that I think is like yours) when I am going slow with my foot on the brake

Thanks chturner,
This happens when moving slowly but without my foot on the brake.

Cheers,
Peg.

Hi Peg,
You might double check that your lug nuts are tight and torqued correctly. I had creak in another vehicle that was pronounced at speeds under 5 mph but went away after that. Turned out I had 3 of the 5 lug nuts finger tight on one rear wheel... Can't blame the mechanic as it was me (whoops). So! Just to be safe I would double check them.

Although this happened on a project 4x4 for me. This experience has made me triple check all lug nuts if I have the wheels off (especially if done at a tire shop).

Good luck!
Ryan

Thanks Ryan,

The rear wheels have both been removed for brake pad replayment and refitted and tourqed up to the correct setting, It was mentioned that it might be the rear hand brake shoes binding a little so this is my next job.

Cheers,

Peg.
