Heater controls don't work!
Hey all,
When I bought the car it was a typically cold British spring, i.e nearly freezing all the time.
Last weekend we had our 1 day of British summer, and I was in the car boiling away.
When I bought the car one of things I didnt test was the heater control...it was constantly jammed on super hot.
When I moved either heater control to cold, nothing happened. I did a whole lot of reading about this and at the weekend bought a multimeter. I could see there was power coming out to the valves, which by memory was something like 7v if cold, 12v is hot. Might be wrong there, but the point is at least the voltage is changing depending on the selection which should drive the piston in the valve!
I then took apart the valve, and the electrical connections on the board were completely and utterly correded, oxiditation all over the connections and board, so I used baking soda paste to give it a good clean and I scraped most of it off. Cleaned this up, cleaned up the pistons and reassmbled.
So now I can get cold and even the aircon works! But...now hot doesnt work at all! Damnit!
I thought I might have to do some valve work, so bought some G-05 coolant, however it is orange and the one in the car is green. So when it came to taking the valves out I had to flush the coolant, which isnt to bad as its a 60K service item.
Does anyone have any advice on how to deal with this? I can hear the valves clicking every few seconds, what does that mean? Whats the normal voltage operation for hot vs cold? Is there anyway to remake the board connections?
Thanks!
