Won't start and no keyfod control
Won't start and no keyfod control
I've read many of the "Posts" about not starting, but not the symptoms I experienced. I have not had any problems with my SRT-6 until last week when after parking for lunch the car unlocked with the FOB and did a little crank before NOTHING. All lights and radio worked, but no cranking and the FOB was inoperable (wouldn't lock or unlock). I immediately thought it was the Crankshaft Position Sensor. So, I disconnected the battery and re-connected right back up. The car started as if nothing was wrong and we drove home (210 miles) without shutting it down. After arriving home I turned the engine off and it restarted, no problem. I ordered 2 crankshaft position sensors, but now I wonder if that was the cause after reading lots of "Posts" about not starting. Thanks for the advice. peace
Re: Won't start and no keyfod control
You may be headed down the wrong CPS path here.
"no cranking" has NOTHING to do with the CPS.
The CPS only comes into play IF the starter is turning the engine over.
Basically, the CPS is used to tell the PTCM the crankshaft position so it can make timing and injection decisions.
The engine HAS to make at least 2 revolutions by the starter before the PTCM has all it's ducks in a row from the CPS signals.
You have what sounds like an RCM cracked solder or flaky relay problem, IMHO.

Re: Won't start and no keyfod control
Yes, that is a reboot.
You can send your RCM to D. J. ( tighed1 ) with a note describing your symptoms, he will immediately send you one of his already repaired ones and then see what ails the one you sent before cycling it into the pool of spares.
Send him a PM, he's in Sierra Vista, AZ and has been repairing the RCM's for years.
He charges somewhere around $20.

tighed1 @ hotmail . com
Send your RCM and $27 (postage & beer increase) (PayPal this address or cash is cool) to:
tighed1

Sierra Vista, AZ 85650
I'll test in my car to verify if my car will start or not then I'll inspect, redo bad solder joints, perform the Me So Horny mod (horn works w/o key) and replace the Air Pump relay (Engine Control and Fuel Pump relays if needed). I will then test your RCM in one of my cars to insure proper operation. I will then mail back the RCM to you via USPS Priority Mail (2-3 day). In most cases I get the RCM back in the mail the day after I receive it so yer looking at about a week total. If you want the package insured please include an additional $6. FYI, In the couple/few years that I have been doing this only one was lost in the mail.
Leave the case on and the fuses in.
