Anyone know how to check a Fan Cooling Module?
Hi folks
I'll keep a long story short. I took my daughter's '04 Crossfire to the shop for AC maintenance, and was surprised when they told me the radiator fan was broken. He showed me, and I couldn't believe the car hadn't been running hot. She had been driving the car for months without a fan from the looks of the fan. We ordered an after market fan assembly, and had it installed. But more bad news. The fan wouldn't run. Got to be the module right? Well, I've ordered two used modules off of Ebay from different highly rated sellers and neither have worked. These modules are OEM and I was told they were taken off of working cars. Weird, right? The car has never run hot - never even smelled coolant. I was told that there is a signal going to the module from the PCM. Have I really bought two bad modules? Does anyone know how to check these things with a meter? Or could it be something else? I'd like to know if they're truly toast before I order a new one. Anyone notice parts are kind of expensive? Lol. Thanks in advance!

Yea, but if you are not technically inclined, the easiest way is to locate another XF owner in your area that is willing to do some part swapping to test ......
( squirrelcrusher comes to mind, he's probably not too far from you )
( or box up the two modules and send 'em to me and I'll test them for you )

Thanks a lot, but I got lucky this time. I just found the problem. When my mechanic installed the new fan, one of the terminals in the connector was pushed down so it wasn't connected. First question should always be, "Is it plugged in?", I guess. When I saw that, I knew I had it beat.

If something like that does not work you have to start at it and work backward, testing for power at the socket would have solved your problematic once.
Note to self, I'll have to remember that.

Yup my 05 roadster operates exactly the same way.
Is that normal for all Crossfires then? I was told, and I believed that the fan ran one speed w/o AC and a higher speed when the AC was running. That's why I was amazed that the car had never overheated.
No, when the A/C is on, the fan will always run at low speed regardless of engine temp.
The fan will speed up if the PTCM decides that extra air flow is needed.
Without A/C, the fan does not normally run at all, if the outside temp is cool enough.
