First thing that comes to mind.. even though it's repeated often.. did you use Genuine Bosch parts?

Throttle Position Sensor. I had an issue like this (not in my Crossfire) and it was the throttle position sensor. Mine didin't die, but it was serverely limited to limp mode and wouldn't allow RMP's above a certain point. Have you checked for codes?

The TPS is internal to the throttle body.
Try removing the black plastic cover and spraying the sliding fingers and the board with contact cleaner.

Somewhere in the back of my mind.. this issue had been seen before from a non Bosch crank sensor.. since it is never a bad idea to have a spare.. get a Bosch installed .. and at worst case you then have a backup one. No check engine light coming up when it dies?

Mrmiata,
Yes, but Bosch is hard to find here, no one has them, please, I see your devotion to Bosch, and I agree, with there quality, but any other ideas, would help, also, this Forum and the senior members come so highly recommended, this is my sons first car, and at 65 I'm not a wizard with this new stuff, I'm a 70's hot rod guy, but that's all changed ..

Also,
Today we were out trying different things, it does run as I said, and will accelerate form idle at 1000 rpm to 2100 rpm, we tried to see if it would go into gear, it's and automatic, we put it in gear, and nothing, no reverse or forward, we applied brake pedal, and accelerated to 2000 rpm, and checked, same result, it will kill the motor at idle, when in drive,

A Bosch is available from Amazon for $26 and a cam position sensor is all of $29. Somewhat less than the $275 you quoted, which is, I assume, from a dealer!
