Troubleshooting & Technical Questions & ModificationsHave technical or modification questions about the Crossfire?

I am fitting an digital instrument cluster (RealDash) into my Crossfire. All working on the bench, with many thanks to rbracy for insights into his own setup! I am about ready to deploy it, but I want to add a few more goodies to it, and to the rest of the car. That in mind, I plan to use a later model C class steering wheel. One with paddle shifters and buttons to control the radio, dash and more. From what I can tell, all of those "talk" on a LIN bus, which should not be a problem to figure out and decode. My problem is the clockspring in the Crossfire column. It only has a few wires, and I need more. Do any of you MB gurus know of a different clockspring, that will fit in the Crossfire steering column, that have more wires running through it? Kind of an odd question, but I imagine someone out there is a keeper of this kind of offhand knowledge.
I just fitted some new paddle shifters and used a Mercedes 002 542 19 18 clockspring. This unit has 4 extra wires and the plug for the steering angle sensor is the same. The main issue is that the extra wires make it fatter than the Crossfire unit. I had to shave it down on the top and bottom and also take some material out of the rear of the steering wheel. If you're using a later model steering wheel then you might have plenty of room.
