Alarm woes again
Had to have Mommas ride towed again, it happened once before when we first got it a few years back. Saturday night the wife goes into the store for about 30 min. she comes out hits the fob and nothing, no door no lights puts key in door and the key will not turn. We keep spare fob batteries in the glove box but if your locked out. So she buys new fob batteries and still nothing, she calls me and I bring the spare fob still nada.
The first time this happened the alarm went off, without the siren thats never worked but lights blink. We could get in but nothing car would not start, dead. Had it towed home got on here and found the battery disconnect trick, reconnected and bingo all is good.
This time it did the same thing but I was locked out key would not turn. Called for a tow and two hours later the truck shows up, flatbed. There is no way to move the car and I cant get in, I ask the driver if he has dolly wheels and he say nope. Im not going to let him drag the car on with it stuck in park so hes says he can try to break in using a pump up bag on the window and works were in. I put the key in turn it still nothing, pop the hood we try a jump start, nothing. Get it home check the battery and its a good 12.5V, disconnect the negative let it sit for a few reconnect she starts right up and were all back to normal. I think I've read all the alarm, key, and skream stuff I can on here but I have not seen anything about the key not turning at all.
So what is causing this? The alarm must be going off and probably being set off because the two times it has happened its been in a parking lot. The alarm is going off for a time then stops and disables everything, is that normal?
Does the alarm system prevent the door key from turning?
We are not using the fob to lock and unlock anymore just the key in hopes this doesn't happen again.
Merry Christmas!
PS. Im gona get me one of those pump up bags.

The door lock is not in any way connected to the alarm. It is a separate issue. With a lot of keyless entry cars, the key lock rarely gets used, so it accumulates dirt and corrosion, and will not turn. There are threads here on best methods to clean and lubricate the lock. Recommend you do that, to knock that problem down, at least. The other is a bit more perplexing. I have ideas on it, but I will defer to those who have dealt with similar issues.
I suggest unplugging the alarm siren, if you have not done so. It contains internal batteries that leak and short it out over time. It is under the cowl in front of the windshield. There are also three drains behind the cowl hat should be cleaned out periodically.
Four drains I believe.
