Skreem/Fob Issues???
Hello Crossfire Enthusiasts. I’ve owned my 2005 Crossfire Coupe Automatic for going on eight years now. When purchased it had ~62,000 miles and now up to just over 72,000 miles. Within months of purchase I experienced to “Sticky Ignition” problem. Thanks to the blog I discovered step by step illustrations for eliminating that problem. Next issue to arise was three years ago and with no warning the FOB would not unlock the doors. Apparently for unknown reasons the Crossfire and Fob must have suddenly lost communication and the solution was to simple follow the directions found on the blog to reestablish linking and the problem was solved. Most recently the Fob once again without any warning would not unlock the Crossfire. No recognition of the Fob by the Crossfire at all. The easiest trouble shooting was to replace the Fob batteries with two new batteries and do as before to reprogram the Fob in the ignition. Still no response. Once I was able to get into the locked Crossfire with help of AAA the very first thing I did was attempt to start the car. The car started right up but then cut out after 1-2 seconds. Second attempt the car did the exact same thing. Third, forth, fifth etc attempts and the engine did not respond to the ignition at all. Back to the blogs and I discovered these exact symptoms are indications of a failing SKREEM module. I was reading through blogs regarding my options for dealing with the SKREEM module when someone stated to first disconnect the car battery for a couple of minutes, then reconnect the battery and again try to start the car. I did just this and much to my delight the Crossfire started right up and remained running. Also the Fob was now functioning normally with regard to locking and unlocking the doors. I shut it down and repeated the process three more times and each time the car immediately started right up and remained running. So, finally here are my questions for someone who has tech and electrical systems knowledge. Is this a warning sign that the SKREEM module is beginning to go bad? Or when a SKREEM module fails does it go all at once without warning, never to “recover” and suddenly start functioning again? Can it be that the wireless connection between the Fob, ignition switch and SKREEM were lost for some unknown reason and just needed to all be reset by having the car battery disconnected for a couple of minutes? The only other thing I was wondering is the fact that each winter I have kept the car/battery on a trickle charger until springtime. I have always left the one foot long electrical quick connect “leash” attached to the positive terminal of the battery that allows for quick easy connect of the trickle charger six foot cord. There is an end cap that covered over the opposite end of the one foot leash so that it is protected and not exposed while not in use. I don’t know if the attached leash could have caused a sudden electrical fluctuation to disrupt wireless linkage? Sorry for the rather long, detailed history but I wanted to be very precise as to what has occurred. I would prefer to not have the SKREEM repaired/refurbished unless it is necessary considering I could be spending close to $800 if that is the case. But if necessary I will be doing just that as I have been a Crossfire enthusiast since I first laid eyes on them back in 2004! Thanks for your time.
Hi only posted that one post and never returned. Those symptoms are usually the screem, contact MSS, (mercedese swap shop) or the RCM, it is plug and play. If you would explain what you are dealing with I'm sure we can help you.
I have a very similar issue, but it's reoccurring and the 'fix' is yanking the 35 and 37 fuses - this supplies the SKREEM with power. I've had this happen twice now and advice from this forum points to battery - itself or connections. I'm still troubleshooting this so I'll amend this thread and the one I started hopefully with the total fix.
Thank you for the update!
