Wiper - one side not working
Hi Guys,
Just got my Crossfire Coupe back from my son. The right hand (passenger) windshield wiper is not working. The driver side wiper is working fine. Any ideas? How difficult is it to get to the wiper motor and assembly?
Thanks ...

NOt all that hard, to get started, you yank the wipers off and then you pull up that cover that runs from one side of the car to the other, under the hood at the back of the engine.
YOu have a mechanical failure of the mechanism that operates the wipers. The service manual (which you should be reading) is not encouraging, it says you must replace the entire assembly -but the manual says that about everything in the damn car! Just get in there and find out what broke or came loose.

I haven't looked at a detailed view of the wiper assembly on the xfire but most cars use a single motor that drives both wiper arms. The motor is connected via mechanical linkage to each wiper which operates them in unison. If only one side is working the other arm is in someway disconnected. The disconnection could be where the wiper arm attaches to the drive spindle located below the lower edge of the windshield. If the wiper arm has been improperly installed to the drive spindle, or is not the correct size, or has been damaged this could be the cause for not working. If the drive spindle is oscillating back and forth with the arm remaining stationary one of the previously indicated conditions could be the cause. If this is not the cause then a deeper look into the drive system as suggested needs to be made.
Hi Gang,
I got the cowling off. The motor and the linkage are fine. The problem is that the wiper blade hold down anchor (threaded) which the wiper blade affixes to is not holding the wiper blade. The groves have been worn away, so that the anchor just spins in the blade. Also, it looks like a mechanic, when dosing some work, broke the threaded arm off and used a screw to hold the blade on. Looks like I have to replace the linkage. Good news, I found a bunch on eBay, about $100 after shipping and duties. I'm calling our local auto wreckers to see if they have any crossfires.
Thanks for all the help

Looks like the wiper linkage is still in stock and priced quite reasonably. I'll call my local Mercedes parts dealer to see if it'll fit the crossfire. Thanks for the lead!
You might also look at 2001-2004 Mercedes-Benz SLK320s in the local junk yards. Should use the same wiper system.

I will be VERY interested to see if the '320 part works.
