Question Wiper refills

I'm trying to find just the rubber refill for the passenger windshield wiper. Went to the dealership you have to buy the whole blade as well. I also went to four different auto part stores and they have ones for the drivers side but not the passenger. Has anyone else had this situation?

I changed the wiper only on both the passenger and the driver sides. It was a pain in the neck because I had to buy the blades and remove the wiper (not an easy task) then put the wiper on the original blades. The wiper itself has three parts. The rubber piece and two small metal strips.
The refills that match the factories wipers are Michelin's and can be found at Wal-Mart for like $6.99 or something like that. I think they were $9.99 at Target. I wasn't going to get rid of the blade with the spoiler built onto it, it works too well. Good luck!

AutoZone stocks refills. Just take the arms in with you and you can find the ones you need.

The wing on the driver's windshield wiper can be removed and reinstalled on a new one.

I went with the Bosch Icon wiper blades, kind of a one piece design with a built in aerodynamic wing. They were super easy to install and have a positive locking attachment. I am very happy with them although they were a bit more expensive than regular type blades.

Rubber strip can be replaced.
Remove whole blade from wiper arm.
Squeeze the two stainless stays and slide off.
An Audi rubber insert can be used. Buy from Audi dealership. It's a quality rubber insert.
Put stainless stays along the rubber insert and slide back onto blade assembly. Trim off excess rubber.
Replace blade onto wiper arm.
Takes less time than it did to type this.
Kind regards.

Ausfire,

Does this proceedure work on the 2005 crossfire? The insert does not appear to be replaceable...it is locked in at the end of the blade.

Comments please....Thanks

I see you have a 2005 roadster. If you used the BMW refill solution...how did you get the OEM rubber off the blade without bending the claw that holds the rubber insert on? Thanks

remove the blade from the center hook/point of the arm and pull the end of the rubber insert gently... the metal strips with release as does the rubber insert.

assemble new insert & metal rails... side into blade until it locks in place... a simple thing to do.

BRappaport,

The wiper arm section appears to be a "throw away, replace the whole unit" and this is how they are marketed by DC here in Australia, anyway.
Dealer spare parts computer system indicates the rubber cannot be replaced separately.
This is not correct. The wiper consists of the frame, two stainless steel strips and a rubber insert.
If you follow the instructions it is easy.

Kind regards.

Ausfire,

Thanks for the follow-up comments. BTW...dealer price for driver side entire blade with integrated wing is $13.49 + tax...reasonable price and good if the blade is bent and not working well. The BMW inserts is the long-term better way to go, since you typically replace the rubber approx every six months...maybe more in the snow/ice climates.

Thanks,

Ben

Here a RH blade assembly is $72.00 Aud. and LH blade assembly is $58.00 Aud. Hence the need to look for the alternatives.
BTW. The wheel nut centre cover for the mags is $196.00 Aud. each.
