Default Crackling noise under windshield wiper vent

Hey Guys,

Yesterday I heard a crackling noise that seems ti be coming from the vent under the windshield wipers. Today the car wouldn't start, when taking the battery in to be tested they seemed unsure if it is bad or not.

I am thinking the two are related, anyone have experience with this. Could the alarm be draining the battery?

Thanks in advance, Justin

Great, now I know what I am dealing with. But I am confused by which part number to purchase.

The post says to replace with 5124443AA if you want it to chirp when you lock/unlock. But I cannot find that part anywhere on the Internet, I can only find 5124443AB.

Also the pictures in the post say to buy AA but his pictures show the old and new as both AB. Anyone know for sure what I should be looking for?

You do not want to buy any part that ends in AA or AB which means it is a Chrysler part which is exactly the same part as the Mercedes part but with the Mercedes part marked up an exorbitant amount. The 'Chrysler' part comes with a Chrysler sticker over the Mercedes sticker, an expensive sticker to be sure.
Here is the Mercedes part.

Thanks 180,

I'll order the one in post #12 and hopefully have a chirp for the door locks, the Radio Shack mod is still too quite for me.

Another quick question, what did you mean by the different stud? Do I just need to find a new nut that fits over the stud because the one that is in the car now will not fit it?

The original uses a screw and the new one just has a stud so you need to find a metric nut, M8 if I recall.
