Default Skreem or not?

Hello, I have a 2005 base model, that just suddenly refused to run. It will start, but die after a couple of seconds. The wing is up and won't come down either. It may not be the Skreem though, as it keeps doing it - I don't have to reset after 3 tries, and the door locks still work just fine. I get the code P120 also, but the throttle body is not available from the dealer either any more. Yes, I can find an aftermarket TB, but would like to know if anyone else has seen this, and had the TB fix it before I order one. I understand the Skreem is no longer available also...

both, they are screem specialist and more than competent with out cars mechanicllly. You actually own a 2004 Mercedes SLK 320 except for the body and interior.

OK, will do - thanks. I do know its a SLK underneath. I seriously don't think it's the skreem as it keeps doing it, it doesn't stop at 3 tries. Gonna try to check the APPS. I already re-soldered the RCM board a couple of years back when I had other starting issues. Love the thing though - I actually had 2 at one point - identical vehicles. It was fun driving around with my son in the other one...

I may have found it... squirrel or mouse. Wires chewed through and missing over by the HCU for the brakes. Its gonna take a while to splice in new wires. I have to figure out how to remove the wiring connector from the HCU as it is not intuitive. Any ideas?

Got new wires spliced in and cleared the P0120 DTC. It helped, but did not cure the issue. The car will now run for about 10 seconds, before it dies again. It has an unsteady idle - it starts really high for a couple of seconds (more than the norm), then slows down and chugs until it dies. The check engine light is on, but there are no codes, and the oil level is fine. I did look for more bad wires, but haven't found any. I may just need to try to drive it up and down the back yard a few times to see if I can get a code to set...

Have you checked the fuel pressure?

Those do seem to be the symptoms of a bad throttle body. Have you looked inside, maybe a mouse crawled in and died there or built a nest.

It is now drivable, but is lacking in power. I have had to splice in new wires (soldered and shrink tubing) for the 4 wires going out to the drivers side front wheel, and the white wire for the throttle body. I performed the throttle reset, and it idles beautifully, but no power. It feels like my old Stratus with a 2.2L. Will it take a bit of driving to re-adjust the fuel mixture, or do I need to keep looking? No, I have not checked the fuel pressure. I doubt that is it, but I can do it - I've been wrong before - just ask my wife!!!

Found 2 new codes that didn't exist before - P0320 and P0325. Knock sensors. I guess I gotta look for more chewed up wires when it cools down again.

I would also check the vacuum lines, including the one that runs under the battery.

So I pulled the MAF sensor and elbow again and was able to get my bore scope in far enough to look under the intake manifold, and lo and behold the knock sensor wires are chewed off also. So now the intake has to come off. Grr. I don't think I'll be able to get to that today.

Of all the wires to chew on, jeeeze, the ones buried under the intake manifold... Are you going to replace both knock sensors as well (since you'll have all that work to get to the wiring to fix)? Just curious...

Probably. Having a hard time finding parts so far though. No longer available through Chrysler. I thought there was a part number cross reference to Mercedes in these forums, but am having a hard time finding it...

The wires have been repaired. All splices were soldered and shrink wrapped, then wrapped in electrical tape. I found the gaskets and knock sensors on eBay of all places and they should be here by Friday. The closest Mercedes dealer was less than helpful.

Glad you found the parts, you do know when searching for parts for the drivetrain, search a 2003ish MB SLK-320 with it's VIN number for the part numbers/parts. Never, never, go to a Chrysler dealership/parts department (they have a MB part in a MB box, with a Chrysler sticker/label on it). They will take you over the coals. Good luck on the fix!

Definitely find some kind of mouse deterrent, or lay out traps, etc...

Yeah I have always known that, unfortunately I don't know anyone with a 2004 or so SLK320 to get a VIN off of, and my closest Mercedes dealer was not helpful. I suppose I could maybe try to find a VIN decoder for the SLK and create a fictitious one to match the XF. Or be a stalker and follow an SLK around until he stops...
