Exhaust popping noise when parked at decelleration
Hi everyone!
Maybe I have never noticed it but had the top down yesterday, ready to shut her off.
I was in park and tapped the accelerator a little, revs came up of course and as they came down there was a "popping sound" from the exhaust. Maybe 1-3 poops.
Did it again a few times and same results. Has anyone noticed this?
It's almost like one of those silly crackle Tunes which would indicated too much fuel that is getting burned.
But I have never noticed it before but I also never rev in park.
Exhaust leak? Normal? Any ideas?
Thank you.
Nick

If you have the OEM exhaust, it might be a leak. It could also be a bad spark plug or plugs.
Can you tell if the sound is coming from the rear where the exhaust tips are?
Maybe you can have someone stand outside of the car and listen to where the sound is coming from. If it's near the front or middle I would guess it's a leak.
If it's coming out of the exhaust, I would say maybe fouled plugs.
Just my opinion.

Someone said it was normal in SRT-6s...I don't think I ever heard it before but also never stood near the back when someone gave it a burst in idle.
Thing with the spark plugs is that I would imagine it does it all the time, for example when coming to a Still-Stand at a red light but it doesn't seem to do it under load.
Probably doesn't hurt to replace spark plugs and coil packs anyways.
Is there a good way to test for exhaust leaks? And is there any patches for it or does it need to be professionally welded?
Thanks for all the info
Can you do me a favor and when you get the chance just rev in "park" and when tell me when the revs come down if you head the popping.
Thanks very much.
Thanks very much.
Absolutely right, like the pop and gurgle tunes...but I actually don't run rich on purpose lol.
Data logging doesn't show car running rich. I found an old thread after posting this that it's normal with SRT6s and maybe it is just I have never noticed it and it doesn't do it coming to a Still-Stand at a red light.
Technically there is access fuel that is being detonated when that sounds happens...it just doesn't happen driving, only when car is in park, revs go up and when revs come down it pops slightly once or twice. Not loud just it is visible..
Would love for someone with an SRT-6 try this and let me know.

When standing outside and listening it definitely comes from the rear (out of the exhaust or from the area of the exhaust).

I've never owned a supercharged car before, so that might be normal.
