I’m going to swap a 3.7 litre short block into my vehicle if the internals are up to the task. From what I’ve read thus far, the internal forged parts are there. The E37 is just a bored out E32 with 10:01 compression vs. 9:01 for the E32.

The extra compression can be dealt with in the tune. I’m going to use Needswings Stage III heads to complete the long block with SLR spec camshafts. All the breathing will be Needswings intake and exhaust pieces.

Engine management will be the stock Bosch ECU tuned for the increased cylinder volume and camshaft timing. The vehicle will have a Snow Performance water meth system running straight methanol. There should be no problem with detonation, and E85 remains an option, but with the methanol, pump premium petrol should work fine.

Has anyone done this swap? I want to keep the character of the vehicle intact, and I don’t want the expense of a V8 swap, especially since I can get a used engine out of a ML350 for about $700, harvest the block and sell off the heads and ancillary accessories for a couple of hundred dollars to offset the acquisition cost of the short block.
