Default 178 mm Crankshaft Pulley with 64 mm Supercharger Pulley

I already have Rob痴 178 mm crankshaft pulley installed. I just picked up a UPD clutched 64 mm supercharger pulley. I want to run both in conjunction.

Anyone running this setup, and how has it worked out for you? Do I need to do anything with the supercharger to spin it at higher speeds?

My build is going to be as follows:

Stage III Needswings Heads
SLR Spec Cams
630 cc Injectors
CL 55 AMG Fuel Pump
Needswings DCAI
Needswings Intake Manifolds
Needswings Exhaust Manifolds and Downpipes
High Output Coils
1 Step Colder Ruthenium Plugs
Waldig Super Cooler
Supercharger Cooling Circuit Isolation Kit
Quaife Equipped Differential
Dyno Tune by Eurocharged

Vehicle has 5,100 miles on it. It痴 the black coupe that Chris bought from the estate of the Colorado woman who had an accident which paralyzed her. I致e had it since 2018 now. It痴 in pristine condition, and I知 going to build it. I知 dealing with a hip replacement currently, but as soon as I知 driving again the vehicle is going to Needswings for the build. Question, does anyone dyno tune up in the Cleveland/Pittsburgh area who is good with Mercedes-Benz? Oh, and the factory rims are pristine and in storage. These are some flow formed VMR BBS knockoffs. I知 saving up for a set of BBS monoblocks.

Stacked pulleys can get you into trouble. Best to discuss your plans with Rob before making a lot of purchases.
Two things you need to add to your list is the Needswings pulley saver kit and a scatter shield for the pulley.
Aluminum pulleys have been know to explode causing a lot of damage.
Here is a link to a very long thread. Read post # 78, 79 and see the chart at post 81 pulley info
Good Luck

Hey Zip,

Thanks for the feedback. My parts are already purchased and ready to go into the vehicle. I致e been reading about stacked pulleys on some older threads, and the consensus seems to be to not spin the s/c much faster than 15,500 rpm. My reading leads me to believe that I知 in safe range with the combo of 178 mm and 64 mm. Are there any charts per chance that break this down? I知 going to have plenty of fueling with my fuel setup, and I知 having the s/c pulley frozen by Diversified Cryogenics to strengthen it. Definitely will be investing in a scatter shield.

I ran a 181 crank with the Code 3 as a daily forever without issue with just a generic tune.

Check out this thread if you haven't already.

the max rpm for the SC is22000 I ran 19000 for almost 10 years with a problem,,,
remember you are at the top RPM for only a few seconds I rea 10.30@ 134 ,, I have a slip for 1065 @ 130
with what you are showing should go faster at a lower rpm you might put the rpm limiter at 5500. jim

take a look here

I'm not sure that combining the SLR Cams with the increased supercharger speed would be a good idea. The cams are going to add to the top end performance and potential rpms of the engine and you'll need to be very careful where you set the limiter. IE. you won't be able to make full use of the extra performance provided by the cams without exceeding the max. rpms for the supercharger. All the rest of it looks really good.

I ran a 178 with a 64mm pulley for a day. Got to the the drag strip, ran with the stock supercharger pulley most of the night. (12 flat all night) Popped on the 64 mm pulley and ran a 11.9x, got an over boost cell (22lbs) and pondered the measly .02 improvement. Intake temperatures went WAY up. Killed power up top. Ran like a beast down low. Decided to drive the 2 hours home with the stacked setup. Super touchy at part throttle and concerning. AFR's stayed in the 14's while getting on it on the expressway. It was slow to drop into the 12's. Too dangerous for me so I returned to the stock pulley. I ran water/meth for a while until it malfunctioned and filled the intercooler outlet with the mixture. The nozzle was in the Y pipe pointing in front of the IAT sensor. Meth came on in the burnout box and emptied the washer bottle into the intercooler outlet. Got it home, thought I had fixed it. Armed the system and the engine died. Filled it up again. Needless to say it was not worth it for me. Yes it works. Too much trouble for my situation but it will be amazing as long as nothing goes wrong.

Hey Les,

Thanks for the info. Per chance was the vehicle tuned for the smaller pulley? I知 having Eurocharged throw it on the dyno and tune it for all of the mods. I知 also swapping the E32 short block for an E37 short block. I知 going to be really careful where I mount the meth spray nozzle.

Thanks for the warning about flooding the IC. I was going to use just a Stage I Snow Performance system, but seeing your predicament I知 going to add their VC-30 controller so that the commencement and limit of spray is regulated. I知 just not sold on E85. I know that it lowers IAT, but so does a proper w/m system.

Kindly,
Miguel
