Re: Hemi Crossfire Conversion
It is not really true that the R170 chassis wasn't designed for a V8. the R170 chassis is almost identical to the W202 chassis which included the C43. A Mercedes V8 M113 engine fits great in our cars by using one with a front sump and C43 exhaust manifolds, fan and shroud. The Chysler Hemi would be cool and the next easiest engine to install since they use the same 722.6/Nag1 trans. I didn't experience any handling difference with the V8 but I am using Voghtland springs. Big brakes are a nice to have and I have huge C32 set up in the front and SLK55 rotors and CL65 calipers in the rear. The Hemi is iron block and would be heavier than the MB V8. I would avoid the 430 enngine since it is not a big enough jump in power from the V6. A 500 engine or 55 would be best and easiest. It would seem logical to think of putting a Hemi in a Chrysler but with a Crossfire you are actually trying to put a Hemi in a Mercedes. Mechanically and electronically the Crossfire is all Mercedes.

WTF holy $hit
Thats awesome, but looks like a lot more relocating than with the MB V8, Bob, correct me if I'm wrong, please.
Has he done any other upgrades? I would be interested to know what kind of power he is putting out and how difficult it was to do the swap. Very cool project.

Agreed. Very awesome work. excellent execution that virtualy appears to be factory.
I too wonder about power at the wheels. How much?
And how difficult was the swap?
I am almost afraid to ask considering but how much would a CAI help? It would appear a simple run down to the left fender box.

Re: Hemi Crossfire Conversion
Just got back home from work. they block youtube there. Finaly got to see the vid!
!! NO TRACTION CONTROL! WOOO!!
Next spring, a 6.1 w/manual drive train from a salvage challenger has my name on it! As well as a standard roadster crossfire. No way would i hack away at my srt-6 lol.
Im going to take a wild guess that hes using one of those standalone engine management systems that are really popular for the 5.7/6.1 in resto mod conversions. Giving the user full control over engine management, and like 5 wires to deal with plus no TC = FUN

Re: Hemi Crossfire Conversion
I just saw that car at a show in Roanoke, VA. It was dark when I saw it, so I couldn't really check out all the details, but it looked like a really good job. There was a stack of business cards on the car that said "Barry Wilson Body work, Painting, Fabrication, Welding, Framework. Automotive & Motorcycle" along with a phone #. I didn't see anyone around the car to talk to.
