Flickering Lights
Complaint:
DAIMLER CHRYSLER HAVE ISSUED A RECALL TO ALL MERC BRAND CARS FOR A VOLTAGE REGULATOR CHECK AND REPLACEMENT. THE CROSSFIRE HAS THE EXACT SAME SYSTEM AS THE SLK BUT HAS NOT BEEN INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, THERE ARE DOZENS OF CASES WHERE THE LIGHTS DIM AT STOP LIGHTS AND AT IDLE WHERE IT IS CLEARLY DOWN TO THE VOLTAGE NOT BEING REGULATED. DC
HAVE BRUSHED ASIDE MY COMPLAINTS.

If the alternator does not put out enough amps at idle no regulator in the world will help.
Does it go away when you bring the rpms up 200 or so?
If it goes away a regulator will not make it stop.

My car does this as well and has for sometime now. I thought it was just "one of those things".
I mean it doesn't go black, its just a little 'blip", but what can we all do about this as I'm sure there's many of us who experience this.

If anyone wants to, they can add this. I would use a 1n2001 diode, and start with 1uf/25 volt aluminum capacitor. Increasing the capacitor value will reduce the flicker more.
This will affect the dome lamp only. If you want to include the cargo lamp also, just add a diode and capacitor for it too.
Note the bar at one end of the diode, that's the cathode end. The other end is the anode.
The cathode needs to face the dome lamp.
Note the + (positive) mark, and/or - (negative mark) on the capacitor. Be sure to attach the positive end to pin 4 and the [negative end to pin 2 of the dome lamp connector.
Of course, insulate the connections with tape or shrink tubing so they don't short to the chassis.
The diode allows current to flow from the anode end to the cathode end only, not the other way. So when the dome lamp is grounded, current flows through the dome lamp, and also into the capacitor and gets stored there.
When the battery voltage falls off, the current stored in the capacitor can flow only through the dome lamp, keeping it lit, until the battery voltage returns.
When the battery voltage returns, the capacitor is recharged, and ready for the next cycle.

I completely agree. There's alot of knowledge here. Really, I think DC dealers should participate in this forum. I think they can gain a great deal of knowledge, and serve their customers better.

I noticed this on mine also. I might mention it to Chrysler when it goes in Friday, got to have a catalytic converter replaced!
I won't hold out much luck of them doing anything about it though!

For the all the nay-sayers on advertised claims for the hypervoltage system, that is one problem that it definitely cures. All the other claims, I could care less about...but are a bonus if true.
That thing called a Battery, It too acts like a giant capacitor..... If it's getting old, 3 4 or 5 years, it could be the problem. If it's low, just as adding water to it helped to increace it's capacitance. I like to replace the battery every 5 years, especally before a cold snap in the weather. My 2004 coupe has the original battery, so i'm lookn to repace it this year in the fall. Yea my lights flicker also.
Guess 'd beter check the water level.
I noticed the same problem on my car. After being in the right place at the right time, I found out it was the electric radiator fan. The fan only comes on for a short time right now. The lights flicker briefly when it comes on, but seems to be fine after that.
