Default Serious mechanical problem

I posted some 8 weeks ago about a serious malfunction that was unable to be diagnosed. To make a long saga short, the engine computer diagnostics picked up no malfunction, the car would start, idle but hunt then cut out. After 3 weeks a technician from Melbourne - I am in Western Australia - came to the conclusion that it was the Engine Control Module, or computer, so a new one was ordered from Germany. It became a nightmare, 10 days later the German end said - not here buddy, try Moparts in the States!! Then it was a further 10 days to get that part, this new part then diagnosed a faulty oil condition switch, which turned out to be the initial problem. After sourcing this part from Melbourne - a further 3 days, the dealer finally got the car back on the road.
Now, the main points here: 1 - the 2005 ECM didn't pick up the faulty oil condition switch. 2 - the new unit with same part ID did. 3 - the switch is inside the sump and requires this to be lowered to replace. 4 - for Australians the parts such as this do not appear to come from the factory sources but from Moparts.

So, if you have an undiagnosable (is that a word?) fault where the engine will start, hunt, then cut out, this could be the answer.

The real downer for me - and I have no issue with the dealer here - is that it took almost 5 weeks for Chrysler to get this part to the dealer. Making a total of 8 weeks to finalize!!

Sorry to hear about your saga. I'm afraid replacement part availability is going to become a major headache for those who plan to keep their car. A wrecked parts car may be the only answer for the XF specific parts. The mechanicals will always be available from MB.
