Default MB Oil Specs

I found this today on the Mercedes oil spec for out vehicles.
It appears that our cars are the 229.5 spec

Don't think I'll tackle that, but I think I'm wrong on the spec for our cars. According to the chart, if I'm reading it correctly, MB vehicles with the FSS which I assume would inlcude the Crossfire, use the 229.3 spec.

I have been using the elf oils with good results. There is a distributor about 2 miles away from me so it is pretty easy to get.

Vehicles with the Flexible Service System FSS from MY1998-2004 can use 229.5 or 229.3 oils.

With FSS paper filters are fine

It appears that at least on all 2004 models paper filters are fine.

So can I use Mobil 1 10W-40 or 5W30. I can always fund 9 quarts of this stuff on the shelfs at auto parts stores.

I'd stick with the recommended Mobil 1 0W-40. Most Walmart stores carry it and at the lowest price I've found.

Amsoil also makes a 5w40 that meets the MB spec, and it is a much better oil than Mobil 1. If you search the internet, you can find a few dealers and somone always offers a discount on it.
