Default Another Oil Filter Question Purolator

Good Afternoon,

I have just finished my first oil change and i am a little confused. I bought the Purolator L25276. I checked the number at the store and online. The filter came with the correct gaskets so I thought everything was fine until i took the old filter out. I noticed that the old filter did not have the raised plastic ends like the purolator. the old filter has no end caps. Which one is correct? Is there right and wrong? I put it in the car and all seems fine. They have a picture of it on the purolator website. I would post it, but i don't know how people feel about posting links in this forum.

Thanks,

Rob

you should use Mann fleece filter, the paper canister filter tend to disintegrate after 5-8k miles, not a good thing.

Well, you do have the right part number. It just seems to be a different design. I'm just not sure what the quality of the Purolator is to other brands. I recently performed an oil change on my XF and put in a K&N and it seemed very sturdy compared to other brands.

I too just changed my oil (yesterday) and used the Puralator filter PL25276. Mine also had raised "end caps" on both sides. Makes me wonder if someone used the wrong filter or an older design on your previous oil change. This is only the second time I have changed the oil in the car, but both times I have used the Puralator filter and it looked the same both times.

On a side note, people here do prefer the fleese filter because the paper element will begin to breakdown if you wait the full 7-9K between oil changes. I can't bring myself to wait that long, so it has not been an issue with me. I have only put 4.5K miles on the car in nealy 6 months...I don't like to let it go too long time wise, regardless of mileage between changes.
Don't want to start a oil war here, just my personal preference.

Hope this eases your concerns.

Cheers,
KrzyFast

I recently got a Purolator filter from Advance Auto-it was the only one they carried that would fit. It was that number and is paper media.
I emailed Puolator and they responded that they also have a fleece media filter, Just increase the last digit by 1. No kidding.

PL25277

I'll see if I can dig that email up at work on Tuesday.

Hello Everyone,
I am so thankful for all of your posts. The Crossfire community is so awesome. now don't have to worry, If i was alone i would still be very worried about the design. Thanks. Now i have to figure out why the car says the oil is OK after 8 quarts but the dipstick reads low .5 quart. Thanks again.

I read that the Crossfire's 3.2 V-6 M112 engine capacity is 8.5 quarts.

Correct - 8.5qts.
However, quite a few people have stated that at an oil change they only put 8qts in, presumably the extraction method they use is not sucking the remainder out.
Remeber, some oil will be stuck to the walls, and inbetween components etc.

Well I have been using the TopSider to change my oil, after the initial two oil changes through the plug, and I have been right at 8.5 quarts get it at the full line. My personal experience has been that I have extracted more oil then pulling the plug while the car is on ramps; I am assuming it is because the car is level. With new cars the first couple of oil changes I like to drain the oil check the plug for metal shavings to see how the engine is breaking in.

Ok its been a week. The car still says ok. The dip stick still says a little. I changed the oil through the drain plug and jacked up the car on the drivers side to ensure all of the oil drained. I then put in 8 quats of fake dino juice. (synthetic)

I have yet changed my oil for the 1st time and I'm glad there are threads like this. By the way, anyone know which local auto stores carry the Mann filters without buying them online? I'll have to get me one of these soon. Also, can we use any other tool to remove the filter cap or does it have to be the one the dealerships use? I'd hate to damage mine. Thanks.

PL25277

I'll see if I can dig that email up at work on Tuesday.
I was cleaning out my in-box and found this:

Max,

The media used in the L25276 is a cellulose blend media using natural and synthetic fibers.

We offer a L25277 filter which is a completely synthetic filter media, some refer to this as a "fleece" media.

Could you please tell me what the filter media used in your P/N L25276 </SPAN>oil filter is classified as?

Either “Paper” or “Fleece”? Fleece being a fiberglass or blown filament type material.

Thanks for looking into this for me,
