Heated seat failure
During the fall '08 dragon run I discovered my drivers heated bottom seat cushion was not heating. I know many members have had problems with there heated seats and explained this to my service adviser and asked if they could replace both of them since my car will be out of warranty this month. She said she would order both the upper and lower for both sides and replace them all if I wanted them too. I know I'll have both the bottoms replaced due to so many failures but not sure about the seat backs, what do you think I should do?
The bottom on my driver's side has gone out for the second time. The service manager had the nerve to tell me this was the first Crossfire he had heard of where the heating has failed!!!
Sometimes the problem is the element, sometimes it's just a wire/pigtail.
I believe there have been some horror stories of people having their seats repaired at the dealer.
There has been another thread about this within the last week - the attachment that is on this thread was in that one too.
The kit which is shown in the other thread (not in this on as I couldn't find it) costs about $70-$80 depending on where you buy it. I'm taking a gamble and just buying this kit as that is what went wrong last time my seat failed - the locacl dealers want to charge $85 just to diagnose the problem.

Just the driver's seat back needed repair on my car. Took two days to get the car back after they got the right parts but it took the parts guy THREE times before he ordered the right thing. I don't use the heaters that much. Only the first ten minutes or so until the car warms up and then I shut them off. My advice, if the dealer is willing to replace them all do it because it'll tie up your car until they get the job done so better once than a few times.
Just a word of warning Frank, if you decide to have the dealer replace your heating elements you may want to take some precautions.

You may want to put some vinyl tape over all your exposed metal surfaces before taking it in to have it worked on.
At least they can drop the top on your car to help facilitate their removal.
When my seat heaters quit working, I'm just going to forget about em. But then mine are out of warranty.

I took the car in last Friday to have the heated seat elements all replaced. They did a perfect job, no scratches and you would never know the seats covers had been removed to replace the heating elements.

That's great news Frank, everybody loves reading about dealer visits with a happy ending. It gives us all hope that it could happen to us, sort of like winning the lottery.
After reading the repair file attached to Spensley's post, probably better to let a tech do it. Thanks for the reminder Mike. That's why I'm hesitant to take mine in. The tape is a good idea. I'll probably take it in when the back goes out......if there is still a Chrysler dealer to take it to.

I plan on attacking mine this Saturday.
Rather than solder anything I'm planning on using male/female spade connectors - that way the next time it fails I can just disconnect and reconnect the various parts.

That was the part that got me thinking its complicated, the soldering part. Let us know how you make out. For now I can do without the bottom part as long as my seat back works. Good luck Spensley!

When I picked my car up the tech told me to avoid scratches he drooped the top and him and another tech picked them straight up out of the car.
Hey . . . not sure where the article is . . but I did the seat repair myself on my 2004. I had detailed pics of what I did . . . can't even tell. As far as I can see, the element or connection to the element in the seat goes, then if it is left long enough, the control module goes . . . so, if you have problems - get it checked and fixed under warranty !

Well, my SRT-6 is going in for this on the 15th. Hopefully the dealer has done this before.

Spensly . . . I would reconsider using the spade connectors . . . trouble is how bulky they are. . .you will have to carve out an area in the cushion in order to have them located correctly and not showing any wrinkles etc. Also, there is the issue of possibility of the connector coming loose . . . I went as per the repair instructions and soldered everything and used the heat shrink tubing . . .
