Default 2008 Crossfire? To buy or not...

I'm looking at a 2008 Crossfire, brand new, for my wife's birthday present two weeks from now.

1. Is the manual transmission from the 2008 going to have the wierd 1-2 or 2-3 shift problem, or even the 'popping out of gear' syndrome like some of the older models?

2. Are most of the TSB's listed taken care of on the 08 model that plagued the older models? More specifically the ones related to engine, pcm, electrical, transmission...

3. Which transmission is beefier? Auto or manual?

4. Any common drivetrain issues I need to worry about?

The one I'm specifically looking at is a new 2008 Red M6 w/ GPS, leather, etc, for just over $20k at the dealer. They have over a dozen 2008's, none over 21k, some as low as 19k.

1) probably yes they all do

2) TSB's Are not recalls the biggest misconception is that they need to be fixed, that is a recall. If it goes bad then there is a fix for it. Most 08's are the end of the line production meaning they were built in 05- 06 with the same problems as the rest of us.

3) drvetrain is pretty much bullet proof no worries there especially with the new lifetime warranty.

As far as if you should buy that is up to you, what is it worth to you to have a car with 0-100 miles. Most used Crossfires will come down in price because of this huge Chrysler dealer drop in price. I wouldn't be surprised at all if used Roadsters will go for 16K and Coupes for <13K. Last but not least NOW IS THE TIME TO BUY AN SRT6 not 5 years ago when they were 45K NOW WHEN THEY ARE SLIGHTLY USED for <20k. Most of the members on here myself included upgraded to the SRT6 because of the pricing, or bought one to go along with there limited. I am just making assumptions because I see your age or location are not listed.

Thumbs up Re: 2008 Crossfire? To buy or not...

At these prices, you will never find a higher "grin per dollar" value on the face of the earth.

Buy it.

Depending on the interest rates offered, I'd go for a used 2006 - You can get them for $14-15k w/ 5-10k miles.... You wont lose anything really on that low milage of a car and you'll save beaucoup cash. My 2006 does have the tranny issue, but the dealer is fixing it for free and I paid 26k... so 15k with a small issue would be totally welcome

Sorry I couldn't answer any of your original ?'s.

We testdrove the '08 6 speed last night. Compared to the 350z, if they were the same price, I'd take a 350z BUT, my wife REALLY liked it, the only complaints being that she could feel the road a lot and the navigation was almost useless without a map for her. We are going back either Saturday or Monday to drive it one more time before making a decision.

How much for a 2008 6-speed Coupe? How did you like the way it shifted?

I could not resist the discounts on the remaining 2008 Crossfires at the dealership yesterday . I'm the new owner of a '08 Coupe with 6 speed manual . It's the first manual I've owned in over 20 years but it is suprisingly smooth . I paid $13,400 for my '04 Limited on Ebay 1 year ago and they allowed me $12,500 on the new coupe that was discounted to $19,500 from over 36k sticker

You'll love the 6 speed. I have my 06 for 1 1/2 yrs with 3500 miles since new & have never had any gear slip out or bog down due to the tranny foxpaw of some reports. Takes a while to get onto the syncing of gas to clutch engage points for smoothness but it's my 1st foreign experience with a stick & it is nothing like it's U.S. counterparts I've owned.

I'm fairly sure that 2007's were built in 2007, at least mine was (Mine was built in July, bought in November 2007)

bad 6MTs were prevalent in the 04-05 time frame. Not sure how many 06's have bad trannies but I know that no-one here has complained of a bad 6MT in an 06, 07, or 08 XF.

I bought an 06 from the owner of a dealership last winter. I paid $22,500.00 for a new car. I'm not looking back at what I paid for a car that my wife and I LOVE! I'm looking back at the years I did not own soo much fun!
Z's are nice, bit I'm a Crossfire man for life. Mine is resting in the garage (Ohio) and I'm counting the days.
Manual and no tranny issues but only 7,600 miles.

You see Z's everywhere.... The unique look of the Crossfire is good enough to help with your decision and owning a car that was hand built in Germany with the entire drivetrain and brakes being Mercedes. How could you go wrong?

I tend to drive cars til the wheels fall off. I went for the 08 because of the lifetime powertrain warranty and even sprung for the extra lifetime bumper to bumper warranty. Hoping Chrysler doesn't go under!

Been more than pleased with my purchase.
